I’ve got the new Flex Volt Dewalt self propelled mower, been pretty happy. I used a non self propelled Green Works mower for ~10 years with no issues.

I am a big Ego fan though I do have a Ryobi 80v electric lawn tractor.

Ego is best because if you need longer run time you swap the battery pack and keep going.

I have their snow blower and a 6 year old 20" push. I still have the original 7.5ah battery from 2018 in it.

I migrated/traded all my Stihl 2-cycle stuff to their battery system. The Kombi KMA130R powerhead has WAY more power than my previous 2-cycle powerhead, with the advantage of not having to jack around with the “illegal” carb adjustment tool multiple times/season to keep the damn thing from bogging down under power.

As such, we also have a Stihl battery mower that’s In the same battery ecosystem as the rest of our orange garden power tools. IMHO does a good job and you get a reasonable amount of yard cut/AK30 battery. Ours is manual drive but they do have a couple of self-propelled models too.

We also have a RYOBI 42” electric lawn tractor that also does a good job. I would’ve preferred the 46” model, but that model was made of unobtanium at the time.

We have a Milwaukee. Strong mower. Cuts our entire lawn in one charge (of both batteries that charge at the same time ina dual charger). I have other car stuff that is Milwaukee (impacts and such) so made sense to me. Love it. Easy, fast, way quieter than my old gas mower (but NOT silent). Strong and goes at a good clip through everything. Our lawn has been a jungle this year and zero issues.

I’ve have the ego system for 7 yrs and couldn’t be any happier. Never had a tool or battery fail yet. The e-steer zero turn is a great rider.

Next month I should have the Yarbo and if all goes well I hope I won’t be mowing anymore lol.

I got my son started a 40V Ryobi system - two 4Ah batteries, a string trimmer and pole hedge trimmer. The mower is a fairly basic one, 21" and not self-propelled. But it's more than enough - it can easily do his grass (about 1/2 acre?) and always has enough power for the task. I am not sure about the string trimmer, but he wishes the hedge trimmer had a bit more power. My Dad, son and I all also have some 18V Ryobi equipment (lights, tire inflators, vacuum, etc) that we are pretty happy with.

We got a 60V Greenworks system - a few batteries, 25" self-propelled mower, string trimmer, leaf blower, and pole hedge trimmer. I love the mower (our lawn is about .77 acres, it takes about 10Ah of battery); my wife loves the string trimmer. The leaf blower works well, but sucks down the batteries quickly - fortunately they can be quickly swapped. The hedge trimmer is better than my son's 40V Ryobi, but still could use more power at times.

As others have said, a lot of systems work fine. Just make sure you get one with enough power (I'd say 40V is fine for most jobs, but maybe you want 80V if you trim a lot of hedges) and that the company you choose offers all the tools you might want - and has extra/replacement batteries at a reasonable cost.

One advantage to Ryobi is that if the equipment has a problem, you can get a replacement at Home Depot if it's within 30 days. After that you have to email the manufacturer; but I had an 18V Ryobi battery sometimes refusing to charge after almost 2 years; I just sent them a note and they sent me a new one without requiring that I send in the old one.

The Ryobi and Milwaukee mowers and all of their battery powered tools are great. The mowers are very quiet, with much less vibration than an ICE mower, blower or edger.

Started electric mowing with a Dewalt 2x20V self propelled push mower - low on power, tought o push and it fried on us. Bummer because all my general power tools are Dewalt 20/60V family.
Then got an 80v Greenworks self propelled push mower - worlds more power, easier to push, takes everything we throw at it.
Recently replaced 26hp Craftsman yard tractor with 48" deck with a 60v Greenworks MaximusZ zero turn. Holy cow, it's a great mower and very well built!

Maybe this question/post is out of bounds as it is not Rivian or electrical vehicle related, or it kind of is but I'll throw it out there & if not cool, someone let me know. I'm in the market for a self propelled electric lawnmower & there seems to be a pretty good market for them. EGO get good reviews, Greenworks, Ryobi....etc. Takes about 30-40 minutes to cut our entire lawn & they all have 40-45 minute minimum run time on a charge. Wondering if anyone has real time experience with any of them.

EGO is by far the best of the ones mentioned here. Every single tool runs off the same 56v batteries and you can also get the batteries in different sizes for different tasks (but they're all interchangable).

I have nearly every tool they've made and my neighbor has the ride mower. Loves it. My yard is smaller so I use the motorized walk behind. I also have 3 of their chainsaws (I'm going to get the new 20" in the spring which is as powerful as a Stihl Magnum), their pole saws and interchangable heads on their Power+ Multi Head system are outstanding. That also runs my string trimmer, edger, extended hedge trimmer, etc. One motor to run most of your tools. Neat thing with the pole saw/hedge trimmers are that you can add extenders (more than one if you're not following the manual ;-).

They have a much better build quailty than Greenworks and you don't have to mess with the various types of batteries that Ryobi has (although I do have the entire Ryobi lineup for shop tools like drills, sawzall, sanders, etc). But having to decide between 40v & 80v is just a pain. And again, the build quailty is on point with Ego.

Best of luck to you!!

Jared

Happy with our Toro electric mower. We have some slopes, so the self-propelled Toro is just right for me.

Consider getting recommendations from an independent dealer. We have one about a half hour away. Sales and service experience have been very good. We got the Toro because they carry it and recommend it.

Very best wishes!

Someone gave me an electric Kobalt snow blower, so I bought the same brand lawn mower (with battery) and weed wacker. Since I have two batteries, I am never out of juice. They both perform well enough.

I have been running the Kobalt 80V self propelled for over 3 years now and its hard to beat for the price. Its the same as the greenworks and a couple other 80v systems just look at the battery and how similar they are. I also chose this one because they sell a great snow blower for the 80v that's been a champ as well.
