Hi all. Loooooog time lurker, first time poster. Hats off to all of you who have been contributing and helping us here over the years.

I pre-ordered a R1S back in may 2019, almost 5.5 years ago. I've been a regular (reader) on this forum for years now. Love all the insights shared.

But the short story is that I still haven't been able to buy our R1S. And now it looks like we won't even have been given the opportunity to get one before the pre-order pricing expires in 3 days.

If anyone has any suggestion as to what we can still do to purchase our R1S (with voucher pricing...), I'm really open to ideas!

Being near Montreal, it was only just a few months ago that Rivian started delivering vehicles here. And very very few at that.

We've been trying to get a Dual Max Pack R1S with 20" wheels (ideally with the All-Terrain package), but have never been able to find one in the shop. Trust me, I've refreshed that page more often than I'd like to admit. I also used the amazing tool put together by RivianRoamer, kept up to date on the latest inventory movement news (and rumors) here and elsewhere, and spoke with my (very nice) Rivian guide in Vancouver. But to no avail.

Though I know Rivian did not HAVE to honor pre-order pricing, I found it fair that they did. I was also ok with them changing it to vouchers to make it simpler. But the fact that they limited it to shop purchases only and had so so few vehicles made available in Montreal before September 30th made it virtually impossible to actually buy a vehicle, especially with a Dual Max Pack configuration.

We waited so long, put so much effort and adjusted our plans so many times to get our R1S, it's really hard to believe it's just going to end like this.

For what it's worth, I had also tried writing to Rivian to see if something could be done, an email that my guide was happy to pass along internally two weeks ago, but I never got an answer back.

Our pre-order date was 11/28/2018. As Rivian started delivering R1T's, we never got a shot because we live in the rural Florida Panhandle, nowhere near any big city where there was a Rivian Service Center. We finally got a vehicle when we changed our address to our son's in Jacksonville. We did get exactly what we wanted from the R1 Shop.

See above: change your delivery address to Boston service center or something else you're willing to pickup at. I did this for my second Rivian, Portland SC. They were confused but shrugged and said "yes boss."

Edit to add: if you've been lurking for so loooooong, you'd already know this is an option. Why wait till 3 days out?

It’s not your fault that Rivian won’t build and deliver the vehicle you want. But you do have options. Change your address or select an alternate (but not ideal) vehicle from the shop. Some flexibility with a great discount voucher will get you an amazing ride.

Thanks, but I wasn't sure how that would work out to then import it into Canada. In hindsight, it might have been possible, but a complicated way to get a vehicle! And honestly, after talking with my guide to try to find solutions, that didn't seem to be an option.

Thanks. I have also been very flexible about the config, just not the battery size. And an R1T would not work for us.

I'm on my 2nd R1T and I would be leery of buying one at any price unless I was relatively close (you fill in the distance) to a service center. I'm only 40 miles from Normal so it is easy and service is great, but as much as I love the truck I wouldn't own one if I was 2-300 miles from a SC.

That being said a buddy also has a voucher (in his case he just can't pull the trigger), but they told him to call if he wanted to buy and they would "work with him". Whatever that means.

I’m on my first R1T and plan on buying an R1S as well. I’m 300 miles away from an SC and would buy another one in a heartbeat. I know people in my area that drive ICE vehicles that must go the same distance to have their vehicle serviced, because of the type of vehicle they bought. It didn’t deter them from buying it. ?
If they’re not on this forum, there’s plenty of Rivian owners, that are this distance away from an SC. My landscaper has one, and has reservations for an R1T, R1S, and an R2. That’s just my landscaper, let alone all the other Rivian owners I drive past in my area.

Despite being 200 miles from a service center, I've had positive experiences with mobile service and service in general. From my own experiences and those of others, it's clear that the quality of the service center is more important than its proximity. The Atlanta service center, one of the original, is a prime example. The techs there are excellent, and their expertise has even been shared with the Nashville center, where my mobile services are dispatched.

I have confidence in servicing my Rivian more than many other brands.

I agree 100%. I got my truck back this last Monday, as it was at the SC for all of the initial delivery items to be taken care of and I had a bad body wire harness that had to be replaced that was disabling my Driver+ system including the cruise control. It took them just over a week, to have everything done and I was super impressed with them communicating with me on the progress. I had an EV rental, so I didn’t care as long as I had transportation to get back home and then back again to get my truck. I’m happy to have the Seattle SC to access. They’ve been great for me at least.

We’re just 30 min away from the Montreal service center, so distance never has been an issue… aside from the fact that the service center took forever to open! But, yeah, not sure I would have been willing to pull the trigger if I had been in a dead zone.

Still hoping Rivian will make it possible… ?

I saw this post on RivianTracker a couple of weeks ago and he's typically an extremely reliable source. I'd call or use the chat function to confirm for yourself.

My guide told this might be happening, but would not apply to us because technically we’re in a region where they do deliver vehicles! An exception to the exception, so we’d fall between the cracks…
