HI Rivian. New owner, a whopping 17 days. # of times left stranded: 2.

Not sure I'm in with this EV stuff so far.

Left with an un-openable vehicle leaving the Niners game last Sunday the 6th of October. Wouldn't open for 20 minutes, Called service, able to "unbrick it".

today, 10/14/24, leaving a clients house, beeping red light, something about the battery malfunction. Service 800# wouldn't let me reboot, had to tow it to San Jose service center.....leaving me "kinda" stranded.

Lil frustrated with Rivian right now. I want to like it, but it doesn't seem to like me. A relationship is very reciprocal, takes giving and taking from both sides to be successful. I give them money, I get modern horse in return. Cept' this horse doesn't want to acknowledge.

Just a rant. Again, the want is much. The disappointment is becoming.

M
OP,
You are having the worst Rivian luck. Did they not even offer you a loaner at your SC?
Hope they get everything straightened out for you swiftly. I’ve had some minor nits but am absolutely loving my new R1S.

The Hotel room key.
Any issues with the carabiner key or PAAK? Bluetooth devices vs the ICC key card you've been having issues with.

FWIW, anything chip-based is easy to screw up or wipe, like setting it on the wireless charger pad. I've screwed up my CAC leaving it there...

So sorry to hear that! I’d be so disappointed too. A brand new car should work. I hope Rivian will help make it right for you asap. My R1S has had a few quirks but I’ve found that Rivian staff does care. They will try their best to take care of you. Sometimes you really need to push to get that service ticket moving! Hopefully, they’ll have you back to driving your amazing ride in no time.

Yeah, Tesla has no problems at all ?

Tesla is Struggling to Find Buyers for the $79,990 Cybertruck, Finishes Entire US Reservation List in 9 Days
Seems to be the story for all auto manufacturers lately. All this talk about EVs …not really IMO….i think we are seeing a slowdown of all autos…especially those above 70-80k.

Plus all those people who would want to buy are probably way upside down on the purchases. They made 2 to 3 years ago during the pandemic craze where folks were paying huge market adjustments.

To the OP I’m really sorry to read this. You have every right to be frustrated. Like others have said this is a new architecture in the 2025 and so there are unfortunately a few little bugs that Rivian has to work out. I’m confident Rivian will get this fixed for you.

Are you saying that’s more or less than Rivians?
Did Rivian have 5 full model recalls in a year? Rivian had 2 full model recalls that I can remember. Even if it was the same number, or Rivian had a few more, Rivian has been mass producing cars for a significantly shorter period of time than Tesla has so comparing the two is still in Rivian’s favor.

The Hotel room key.

And so I've heard. I wish they did a normal truck. Dont want to be seen or drive a triangle.

Hope so, not a great start however....

Gas/Diesel 3/4 ton. and an R2 for daily drive/estimates duty (it is/was a work truck)
Love my R1T and 3/4 ton diesel. Best of both worlds.

Tesla made it through a reservation list of over one million already? Wow! The must be building those cyberdumpsters really quickly.
It has nothing to do with how many CTs Tesla made. The reason they went through the list so quickly is because most of the people on it declined to convert their preorder to an actual order when presented with the opportunity.

Recalls that haven’t stranded anyone as far as I know Mr biased Rivian shareholder?
Yeah getting the accelerator stuck to the floor, or a non working rear camera that doesn’t refresh fast enough or a wiper that cannot clear the windshield during a rainstorm aren’t at all safety issues. Oh wait a second…

To be fair only four were isolated to the Cybertruck, the other affected a lot of Tesla models with a font size that’s too small on the dash display. Rivian also had five recalls in the first year of production as well. If you look through them I’d argue that three of Rivian’s were for actual potentially dangerous conditions (airbag, steering knuckle, seatbelt bolts) opposed to one for the Cybertruck (gas pedal pad).
You don’t think the wiper not working in the rain or the rear camera not refreshing fast enough to use it are safety issues? I disagree.

Interestingly, the number of recalls for the R1 have been increasing every year. So, just because a carmaker has experience making cars doesn’t mean they get better over time.
And, yes, Rivian has had more recalls than CT this year. Not all serious safety issues either way for both brands, though.

Have owned several EV’s. Gave up my R1S early reservation, as decided the vehicle was too large for us. Currently have a Tesla M3 L/R, and have a R2 on order. But, as it’s at least a couple of years away, I’ve been test driving a couple of things. Equinox EV (non-starter) and BMW iX50 (nice, but not great I didn’t think. And over priced.) The salesman at the BMW dealership (a very large one in SoCal) informed me they won’t take Rivians in trade..too many problems. Sounds protective to me, as the R1S has a decent resale value on Car & Bids. Awaiting the Audi Q6 release to try. The Macan I would want is too expensive. The R2 tri motor, with 300 miles of range and 0-60 in <3.5 seconds would be the best. Gitter done!!

Friends - how does referencing a crappy truck that OP doesn’t have help OP? If I buy an iPhone and it bricks in a week, I don’t really care if a Samsung is crappier lol
