This "I'm the anointed purveyor of omniscience" attitude for everyone else concerning every feature is getting really irritating. Give us all the options and let the marketplace decide.

The market has decided, Rivian doesn’t have car play … yet everyone here has flourished with out it.

CarPlay sucks, full stop. Rivian onboard ui > CarPlay. Done.

As far as I’m concerned if the “I want carrrrrrplaaay” threads are allowed this is allowed too. That’s the problem with opinions, sometimes you come across one you don’t like. It’s especially bothersome when that opinion happens to be correct such as in this case.

This take is dependent on the manufacturer’s implementation of CarPlay.

I live in a congested metro area. Rivian’s map implementation is simply not good enough. Waze/Google maps have to be up on my phone to avoid traffic that the Rivian maps experience doesn’t pick up fast enough. It’s improved significantly in the time I’ve owned the truck, but it’s not there yet. That’s my gripe and everyone else will have a different, personal, reason.

Is the Rivian UI nicer? Absolutely.

It’s ultimately irrelevant if the functionality you depend on is subpar.

The CP and AA haters are the minority.
My R1T has been in the service center for two weeks now so I’ve had a Jeep Wagoneer for a rental and it comes with CarPlay. After finally getting to play with and learn CarPlay, I have to say that CarPlay is a huge NO for me. I significantly prefer the maps that Rivian provides and just use Waze on my phone. And Spotify is FAR superior on the Rivian’s system than through CarPlay. I cannot wait to get my R1T back (may even check with Enterprise to see if they have an R1S in stock that I can get). So please, stop requesting that Rivian use or implement CarPlay.
Using Google Maps instead of Waze through CP, you can enjoy the same satellite view Rivian provides with Connect+ at no extra cost. Additionally, Google Maps now includes similar alerts, such as information about police presence, road hazards, and railroad crossings.

I had a rental Chevy Tahoe last weekend with CarPlay and all it did was remind me how much I disliked it. And I am definitely an Apple guy. It’s the worst of all their products IMO…

I assume you did some sort of market research study to back this up. Feel free to link to it.

You do realize that Car Play implementation varies from vehicle to vehicle, right? It's not all exactly the same between different vehicles. That said, I have it in my Jeep and it's actually very good.

And just because you didn't like Car Play (after your one experience) doesn't mean that others shouldn't want Rivian to implement it (although I doubt they ever will) because everyone would always have the choice to NOT use it if they did implement it some day. Think about that.

BTW, using Waze on a phone sucks compared to using it on Car Play. There's simply no comparison. And Waze is vastly superior to any other navigation system on any vehicle for a lot of reasons. And why would you be using Waze on your phone if Rivian's navigation is so wonderful? Makes no sense...

I'm not going to post a poll, but my obvservation is that many/most feel that the Rivian UI and navigation has been improving. Maybe not fast enough, but improving. I've seen an improvement, but I admit I am not a frequent user of navigation. I don't live in an area where I need quick rerouting due to traffic jams. In my home area, traffic backups are usually due to a Mennonite or Amish horse and carriage or a large farm tractor.

So there are 2 base opinions/demands:
1. Some believe Rivian owes me options and should let me choose. I disagree, I'm more interested in a company setting a business plan and executing that plan, which Rivian is doing, if slowly.

2. I don't want to wait till Rivian makes it better, I want it now so give me Car Play. I want it now - a reflection on our society in general.

This is true, but the irony here is that some guy rents a vehicle with Car Play and gets to experience it for the first time in his life and then posts that it's terrible. My guess is that he has no clue whatsoever and is being completely disingenuous since he included the part about using Waze on his phone. But hey, everyone is entitled his his/her opinion, right?

If CarPlay is as great as it is made out to be, there is supposed to be essentially zero difference between using CP and the iPhone. Under that premise as touted by Apple, if he uses an iPhone, your comment that "he has no clue whatsoever" doesn't make much sense - unless you are stating that he has no clue on how to use an iPhone, which is pretty presumptuous.

I don’t know how disingenuous it is. My wife’s BMW has CarPlay and it sucks. I have used it in several cars now and have walked away unimpressed each time. It’s better than most legacy autos but that’s like saying it’s the tallest midget or the slimmest bariatric patient.

A far better solution is manufacturer software that works. Then again I don’t need or care about to the minute traffic updates. The routing on Apple Maps has made more mistakes for me than Rivian’s lately so I don’t think it’s necessarily better either.

tl;dr I know for certain how to use CarPlay yet came to the same conclusion

I will continue to ask for it and list it as a main complaint when someone asks about my Rivian.

The beauty of AA/Carplay is that you don't have to use it if you don't want to. Rivian can continue to develop their own navigation and media stacks while still offering AA/CarPlay--they're not mutually exclusive.

Rivian should just implement it, and implement it poorly.

I love and hate this idea all at the same time....
