Hi-

About 15 miles into a drive my 2025 R1S popped up basically all of the warning lights at the bottom left of the driver screen and said "Driver stalk not working" in a pop up. Pic included below. The statement that we might be stranded was alarming to say the least. The steering felt a bit funny and it wouldn't regen brake as we pulled over. I couldn't get it into park without clicking the button on the screen. I was able to hard reset it and things seemed fine afterwards and we continued our drive. A bit later during the drive it then warned me the turn signals weren't working twice but that warning went away and it also gave me warnings about the adaptive headlights though they ultimately started working.

I have also seen intermittent warnings about the parking sensors and radars sometimes in just front or back sometimes all around.

Currently on software version 2024.39.32.

I added this to my list of stuff for a service apointment. I searched these forums and didn't see this issue but on Reddit I found some examples of the same thing. I find it hard to believe my only issue is the control stalk since other things are happening. Perhaps all software but not everyone is having all these issues. Some guy on facebook said he's never had to do a soft or hard rest of his R1S. I am stunned since I have to do them often after software updates and sometimes I get a bonus event in between like here.

I also have noisy front drive unit especially between 15-35 mph and especially on regen that others have noted in other threads. And some mostly cosmetic issues. Love the vehicles but this latest thing has us a bit rattled about reliability.

That's strange. I have no idea what's causing all that drama with your R1.

I'm with you on long term reliability. This truck is awesome but after it being tied up in service for over 3 weeks at this point, I truly fear how much the repairs will be down the road. Especially, since there are not many 3rd party vendors making replacement parts, no manuals for DIY repairs, long service times and when things are not covered were going to be on the hook for a rental bill on top of the repair bill. Hopefully things change for the better but I am thinking I might have made a foolish decision buying a Rivian. Up until I had to take my truck into the service center I was in love with this truck, now I am fearful of what's to come if they don't address the lack of service issues and extended wait times.

Sounds like a 'new' failure mode we haven't seen. So an update after your service visit would be desired.

I will definitely update people. The person on Reddit that had this was facing this happening repeatedly even after resets so it seemed that their problem was different.

I've had it three times in my first 1000 miles, always after getting off the interstate when using driver+, or whatever the correct terminology is for Rivians' mini FSD. Always fixed with two steering wheel button reset.

This sounds different from my situation. I was driving on rural roads and not using driver+.

I’ve had it a few times, 2025 R1T. Because it’s intermittent and a soft reset fixes it, I feel like this might be an obscure software bug that’s fixable.

Ya, that would be my guess too.

Hardware problems don't go away with a reset.

Also fwiw I’ve never actually had it unable to go into park or go back into drive after turning off. It either prompts on the main screen to go into park, or taking off your seatbelt and popping the door will park it.

We should make sure it’s reported though so it can be looked into and hopefully bug fixed. Having had a new gen. EV before and having a few quirks fixed, I’m not too worried.

I agree it seems most likely a software bug but the complexity of the vehicle raises the possibility of an intermittent hardware issue that only surfaces sometimes. An example from another vehicle: had an Infiniti q50 with steer by wire. Car would sometimes raise faults that cleared until one day it was disabled. Turned out to be a design issue with hardware exposed to condensation.

This specific issue on my R1S concerns me more than the other bugs. Having issues like flaky adaptive headlights, Apple Music issues, or Mac issues are annoyances. Things that could at least temporarily disable the vehicle fall into another category.

I had an early model 3 so have experienced EV growing pains before. This has been a somewhat rougher ride than my Tesla in terms of these issues. I’m hopeful they can get this sorted out.

Sure, I’m not 0% worried, it’s that the parking mechanism itself still works fine through the center screen prompt. I have also considered that it could be intermittent hardware issue literally on the stalk itself since an alternative mechanism to trigger parking works.

Did yours have issues putting it into a drive mode or was it also just getting out of drive and into park?

only issue was getting into park after error and had to use the screen to do so

I'll chime in that I've had many of these same errors/issues (drive stalk, radar, reg brake assist etc). I had a tech out for an unrelated issue and mentioned the frequent errors (it happens every few days). He hooked up his computer to check things out and quickly pointed to a software issue. I forget the exact terminology he used, but he felt confident that the update rolling out this week would resolve these issues.

I was previously doing soft resets, tried one hard reset and haven't had it happen since. That's good to hear about the incoming update, I was looking forward to seeing if that clears it for good.
