Lectron NACS to CCS Adapter Recall Notice (from Amazon)

I’m mostly curious if they’re going to send out the replacements before confirming you have disabled the old adapter. There was really only one mention of sending in a picture of the disabled adapter with your name in the last 5 seconds of the video so very easy for people to miss.

I clarified this with their CS team as soon as I got the email. Apparently, this recall is for the May 2024 recall that affected a small number of units bought from the Lectron website. This does not, in any way, affect those bought from Amazon. So if you got your Vortex from Amazon, you're all good!

Yeah I wrote a thread and warning about it a year ago. Long story short, the adapter was causing errors, Rivian advised not using it and switched to Tesla Tap. I recall some others having lectron issues as well so I stay away from their products.

My Lectron is just to hold me over until I get mine from Rivian. Have used it twice with no problems, generally charge at home.

For what is worth, I've used the lectron in a couple of Road trips (about 5 or 6 uses) and it always worked fine for me.

The message from Amazon was due to an NHTSA registered recall regarding their voluntary recall back in May. Amazon is required to notify everyone even though they didn't actually sell the affected units. Tesla is forcing these moves on the third party folks. A2Z's most recent was due to Tesla not liking the lower latch assy and the recall was just to appease their legal matters.

The UL certification for these types of adapters is getting finalized.

I suspect the A2Z adapter, while good, didn't meet one of the requirements (>10,000 insertions etc) and so they're recalling them so that the new one will meet the UL requirements and they can advertise that their adapter is UL certified going forward.

Why suspect when the CEO of A2Z went on State of Charge and said it was due to an engineering firm hired by Tesla's report that found 2 defects that don't match upcoming UL cert (that Tesla is presumably writing)
* physical J3400 latch could degrade leading to potential accidental unplug after 10k insertions despite being in locked position
* plastic shell of the adapter getting hotter than prescribed temps (>~60C in 25C ambient room) after sustaining 500A for more than an hour continuously.

Tesla used that report to threaten A2Z with a safety NHSTA recall unless A2Z recalled it themselves. A2Z decided to do a voluntary recall instead and replace all original style adapters with the "pro" version. Given that A2Z discontinued the adapter as soon as they got the original report (notably not when they launched the Pro), it was clear that the original wouldn't meet the UL specs.

I purchased 2 of these via Amazon and received the same email. I sent an email to Lectron and got the following response within a few hours.
