It is not about that - it is about Gen 2 being worse than Gen 1 charging curve. It was supposed to be better, Rivian knew that they have thermal issues and were supposed to improve them. They decided to skip this.It is ok to criticize but to put so much importance on charging speed to me is off base. Most people are not taking trips every week with multiple charging stops where the charge speed would even impact their use cases.
I’ve had my G1/Large/quad R1S on a 5500 mile and 7400 mile trip. Most of my charge stops are under 30 minutes. By the time I stretch my legs, do a potty break, maybe grab a cup of coffee, and scope out my next leg of the trip there was not a lot if any waiting time for the charger.
It is similar in my opinion of people talking about range, in my opinion most people are not even close to needing the range they currently have. Sure there are outliers that need to go a couple hundred miles a day or more but that is not the typical use. I have an older Tesla Model S that gives me 170 miles at 80%. It is a 2016 with a charge speed that maxes for a brief period (read couple of minutes best case scenario) at 120 kWh I had no problem taking that on a 6500 mile trip last January, again with most stops under 30 minutes.
