It is ok to criticize but to put so much importance on charging speed to me is off base. Most people are not taking trips every week with multiple charging stops where the charge speed would even impact their use cases.

I’ve had my G1/Large/quad R1S on a 5500 mile and 7400 mile trip. Most of my charge stops are under 30 minutes. By the time I stretch my legs, do a potty break, maybe grab a cup of coffee, and scope out my next leg of the trip there was not a lot if any waiting time for the charger.

It is similar in my opinion of people talking about range, in my opinion most people are not even close to needing the range they currently have. Sure there are outliers that need to go a couple hundred miles a day or more but that is not the typical use. I have an older Tesla Model S that gives me 170 miles at 80%. It is a 2016 with a charge speed that maxes for a brief period (read couple of minutes best case scenario) at 120 kWh I had no problem taking that on a 6500 mile trip last January, again with most stops under 30 minutes.
It is not about that - it is about Gen 2 being worse than Gen 1 charging curve. It was supposed to be better, Rivian knew that they have thermal issues and were supposed to improve them. They decided to skip this.

I got my Gen2 back at the beginning of august and said ALL of these things and everyone on this board gave me crap for it I had to bring my brand new vehicle back to the service center immediately after taking delivery and they never fixed the car's problems. Rivian has been going downhill!
Unfortunately, you are correct. I am with Gen 1, and will not upgrade to Gen2 (at least until I will see how the new ADAS will work (if it will work anytime soon). It is just very sad that having a golden egg in their hands but they miss the opportunity to listen to their users and improve.

I can understand your point of view. Auto Influencers with over 100k followers and especially those with over 1m will get preferential treatment from car makers...but they shouldn't accept it if they want to be taken seriously. I can't comment on what kind of deal Kyle had with Rivian or if he did have any preferred pricing.

Kyles videos are informative and a research tool as it should be with any social media personality. Especially the large channels there are all kind of other things at play that folks don't know about. For that reason I take what all of them say with a grain of salt. Its information that should be researched and verified before drawing a firm conclusion or making a purchasing decision.

IF rivian gave me any kind of preferential treatment, pricing, etc. I would disclose it. I like being a smaller channel for this reason, but even if larger I wouldn't want to accept any preferential treatment because folks wouldn't take me seriously. Its the reason why we have to disclose when there are paid promotions in our YT videos.

In the end its entertainment and while I don't know for sure....I tend to believe that Kyle is just trying to stir up controversy to increase his engagement. He is an incredibly smart guy...and as someone else said nothing like a little enragement to increase engagement.

The major news outlets are a perfect example of this....and we wonder why there is such a major problem with anxiety in this country. You can't turn on a device or TV without your fight or flight fear response being triggered. I digress.
All Cut-the-Line-Kyle had to do was simply disclose that he got preferential access, pricing, and timing and let the viewer decide what they would do with that information. He lied saying he got none of that which was an insult to everyone's intelligence.

YouTubers who are influencers do get access and special treatment when it comes to product launches, but the good ones don't lie about it to try and maintain their objectivity in the eyes of their audience. They are up front and disclose that.

The fact that he wasn't willing to simply disclose that information up front tells me all I need to know about his commitment to being open and objective.

You should note at the time, he didn't even have 70K subscribers. He needed to drive eyeballs to his channel to drive up his subscriber numbers and he knew having one of the most sought after vehicles on the market at the time would do that for him.

That is not the kind of YouTuber I chose to support when there are so many more honest ones who disclose their relationships and preferential treatment and who take the time to to edit down their content so that I don't have to waste my time watching filler.

To be fair I think Cut-The-Line-Kyle does edit down his videos. He is such a windbag that if he didn't edit them down they would all be 12 hours long.

I respect his opinion, but his channel has taken a smug, authoritative tone as it has grown. I really used to like it, as he generally maintained a positive spin regardless of what he was reviewing. He's been very negative regarding the Rivian charging curve, as has some of his staff. Completely fine if he wants to produce content/engage in social media in that way, but it's not what drew me to following his content.

Honestly their content has been trending towards a smug, we know it all point of view for the last year. The fact that they think folks really want to watch 6+ hours of them bantering while driving across every interstate in the US reinforces this. Demanding to sit down with Rivian on how to engineer their vehicles also makes me lose respect for him. They've lost their luster to me and I've moved on to other sources for EV content. I think it's a case of them getting a big head due to their success.

I might be in the minority, but I focus more on content than tone. I barely listen to the blah blah blah sections of so many YouTubers pontificating. If Kyle does get to sit down with an engineer and get some inside info we can use, then good for him (and us).

I do dislike smug people greatly. It will cause me to tune out fairly quickly and look for other content. I do agree that most of OOS videos are too long. I don't have a lot of free time to wade through a 30 minute video production. If I could just read the info, I'd be happier 90% of the time.

I'd never base my purchasing (or selling) on a YT vid. It might be a data point I'd consider, and the more closely it aligns with my intended usage, the more I might weight it. I have never been a sheep.

There's a place and audience for long-form content, and to their credit, they tend to start videos with "go to this timestamp or site if you don't want to sit through the full hour," which I appreciate.
But I think my main beef is along the same lines you describe.

Yeah, I like the substantive content and I like seeing many different use cases. My main issue is that Kyle/OOS pretty much comes out and claims that their use case is the most important thing that all EV purchasers should consider. And I'm sitting here thinking "there's a decent chance I've been driving EVs longer than Kyle's had a drivers license."

Ok, you guys both got me to chuckle pretty good. That's an interesting nick name. How did that come about?
It came about when Kyle got his hands on a Launch Edition R1T with pre-march pricing without actually having a reservation (and him getting that R1T well after the cut-off for reduced pricing) and with nearly everyone on this forum at the time still waiting in line for their R1Ts that they had actually placed a reservation for.

The icing on the cake was when he sent his family members into the forum under burner accounts to fight me instead of just owning up to his BS lies about not having preferential treatment because I had the audacity to be pissed about it, having been one of those people waiting in line.

On an Inside EV's podcast he was asked about how exactly he got his hands on an R1T when nearly everyone was still waiting for one and the look on everyone's face when he was done spouting his BS that he didn't get any special treatment was....priceless. Nobody was buying it.

So, heretofore, I always refer to him as Cut-the-Line-Kyle.

Most of us who've had a problem with Kyle have had it since he cut us in line for the Rivian. I ordered mine first, he skipped me in line. That's my primary issue with him.

Clearly Kyle's vids have evolved. I used to enjoy learning about the vehicles he made them about but watching hours of teams racing across the country has no relevance to my ownership. I'd wager that more than 90% of us charge at home almost exclusively and when road-tripping, I certainly don't try to drive non-stop until I've arrived if it's more that 400 miles or so. I have taken a 1650 mile round trip excursion and won't drive a non-tesla ev on that trip again until more chargers are available along the shortest route.
Still, I don't think he's wrong about his observations and although the gen2 may not charge any faster than the Gen1 vehicles, I'm pretty sure charge rate wasn't among the top of the revisions list for the Gen2. Turning a profit, I suspect, was top priority.

That is a screenshot so it doesn't actually link anything. I'm not here to rehash the past, and everyone is free to support anyone's channel they deem fit.

The link to the actual video (and the segement the screenhot comes from) is here if anyone is interested.

Ahh now I see. I can understand how that is frustrating. You guys know I didn't cut any line right?

I bought my R1T used with 200 miles on it and I picked up my wife's R1S early from the Rivian Shop. Just want to get straight as I don't want any beef with you guys here ?

I skim Kyle's videos mostly as I don't have the time to watch the full episodes....usually. Kyle is knowledgeable which is the primary reason I watch. I certainly don't agree with everything Kyle says though and the way he has been towards Rivian lately is very frustrating to me.

If I am going to present something as objective I do just that. If I am sharing my opinion or presenting things that are subjective then I also try to point that out.

I also have a detailing obsession so I probably watch Coleton now more than Kyle (out of spec detailer). I am a huge fan of Tom at State Of Charge...Tom is very professional and all his reviews are about as objective as you can get.
