Glad you like your Michelins. They were the one I was leaning toward and everyone talks about how they are efficient and quiet. Those aren't my top 2 priorities. Cost isn't a driver, but if I can save money I will.I have the Michelin Defender XLT's now for over 8000 miles. Best decision I've ever made. They are super quiet! Bet your Goodyears hum nicely. My size is 285/60/20's and I only drive in Sport Mode at low suspension setting. My ride is great and I don't anticipate ever changing tires before 50,000 miles. Warranty says 70,000 miles.
I do admit, they're not the best looking tire, but they are the quietest and most efficient tire available for Rivian I think. I drive mostly with the radio off, and it's crazy quiet, especially when you have passengers that you're conversing with.
Sure, they're expensive, but so is my Rivian and my Rolex, you get what you pay for. Got mine at Costco, best place for tires. They have the least issues with claims or problems and are nationwide. Free rotation while you're shopping!
Tires that last a long time invariably give up grip/traction to do that, hence the reason they are rated lower on the UTOQ ratings. Bringing up Costco, I couldn't find a Costco in my area that would mount the Michelin on the truck. They would do the tires and leave it up to me to actually put them on the truck. The extra inch of tire width can definitely provide more grip, all things being equal, than a narrower tire.
Discount tire has treated me well over the years and I've gotten a lot of value out of their tire certificates which Costco doesn't offer.
If I was spending all my time on the highway, I might have gone with the Michelins. While tire noise may be an issue, I doubt it will be a major one. Until I get the rest of the wind noise knocked down, tire noise is the least of my worries for what is basically an all-season tire.
While people are happy with the Michelin, and I've been a long time Michelin buyer, I think the Goodyears being designed specifically for the truck could offer a lot of advantages. It was hard to get out of the Michelin eco system and buy something else. I have them on my Plaid, have them on my Highlan model 3 performance, on 7 of my motorcycles and had them on Model 3 until I put Hankook iON Evos on it (which have been awesome).
If I hate the Goodyears, I'll just buy something else and move on. I just spent almost as much on 2 Michelin motorcycle tires as I did for the 4 Goodyears. Not a big deal. Enjoy your Michelins. I am glad we have other options.
