Hi Everyone,

I went for a car wash today to wash off that salt and grime from last 2 months......yes no new snow in Chitown for next few days.??
This is a hand car wash place and they seem to wash highend cars.

The guys there offered to do window tinting for the front 2 windows. They said they have a guy who comes in and does tinting using a film and can match rest of the car.......for both windows they quoted $120 for regular and $160 for ceramic tinting with UV protection.

Did anyone get front window tinted if so where from and will they match rest of the car and what was the price.

Nice to have them tinted but don't know if I should risk getting it from a car wash.??

Thanks

If it's a hand wash for high-end cars and is fairly expensive, I'd trust the guy they bring in to tint windows. Sounds more like a detailer than a simple car wash.

I got mine done—matching factory rears—by the same authorized XPEL PPF installer. $160 is on the low side for two windows with ceramic. But since that guy is mobile without overhead of a shop, it makes sense. I don't remember exact tint, I want to say either 30% or 20%.

Ceramic has higher heat rejection (IR blocking). Standard is just tint + UV, not as effective against IR (i.e. don't bother with standard).

I ended up going to Abt, they perfectly matched the rear windows and I was out of there in less than 90 minutes.

Be sure to check your state laws on what is legal for tinting the windows. Many unscrupulous window tinters will install illegal window tint. It's not their money on the line for any tickets received.

I have all windows tinted including windshield, I did a ceramic tint and does great on blocking UV and heat during the summer. I used the lightest tint and went better ceramic film and love it.

A carwash is good at, well, washing cars, not installing window tint. Does this carwash outfit sell auto insurance also, tires, maybe? Dental services, knee surgery?
That aside, it seems that you are getting majorly ripped off.
I paid $515 for a full window tint on my R1S; film darker on front windows, lighter on rear doors to match color; dark on liftgate; and clear on windshield. And ceramic c. Guaranteed pretty much forever, will never bubble up a la DIY style, will never turn purple. I cannot even tell that it is an aftermarket add-on. AND, it is street legal.

Thanks everyone. Yes I need to check state laws to understand what's legal. I am calling few other places to get pricing, only one place got back but they are higher.

as bigsky mentioned, bubbles are a huge concern, I will just not get it if anyone here experienced bubbles on their tints.

anyone know if the original tint from Rivian on back windows is a film as well?

If you can, get your tint done by a professional who knows the job at hand. Check reviews. You get what you pay for applies always. Check warranty.
Have had window film installed by pros only, many cars. Never, ever did I see a bubble anywhere. Not one single piece of film turned purple, either. Finish might as well be OEM.
Rivian windows are tinted as is. No window film.

In Orange County, I paid $650 to tint all windows and windshield (clear, just for heat rejection). This was using 3M Ceramic IR.

Think the better film might be Llumar IRX and Air for the windshield. Should research the different films.

I paid a tad less, but same thing, same type.
