When to pay

Hey all.

After years of waiting/hesitating, I've pulled the trigger on a 2025 Max Pack DM R1T! This'll eliminate two vehicles for me, a daily driver and a towing vehicle. Taking delivery this Thursday. Quite excited!

This will be the first vehicle that I buy where I have the option to not bring a cheque in and can use ACSS Debit/Stripe or Wire Transfer so I have a few questions.

What happens if I to send the money through one of these options and something happens at delivery and I refuse it?

Do most people still prefer to bring a cheque in?

What's been folks' experience?

Just wire the money, very simple.

I don't think they accept money in any form during a purchase unless you buy an accessory (cross bars, additional keys, etc...). Account needs to be settled before delivery, and they'll tell you when you get to that step. If you don't settle the account, your delivery will get moved/cancelled.

FWIW just added a Y to our fleet and the Tesla buying experience was similar to Rivian. I selected on a Sunday, and picked up 3 days later after finishing all the steps and funding the deal. Tesla is a little more buttoned up but they've had a decade extra to get it right.

I brought a cashiers check in. That way, I could inspect the car before delivery.

They'll let you reverse a wire/ACH and still refuse delivery, but it was just easier for me to do it manually.

If you use a check, you'll need to take a photo of it and submit it in the app a couple of days before delivery.

M bank couldn't seem to give me a wire advice so we FedEx'd a check a few days before delivery. We were on a tight time schedule and couldn't wait around for them to verify a bank check at the SC. We basically threw caution to the wind and it worked out fine.

I was going to wire the money but got a last second approval for a factory delivery so did not have time for the wire.

Packed a bag, stopped by the CU on the way to the airport to get a cashiers check and hopped on a plane, picked up in Normal the next morning.

Issue was they had stopped CA deliveries in Normal, something to do with an issue between the 2 DMVs, was told I had the last factory CA delivery.

As mentioned above, you do need to upload an image of the check for them to complete the process.

Thanks all. Delivery Guide confirmed they need the payment 24 hrs ahead of time. So went ahead and paid through Stripe. Thursday can't come soon enough!

Yeah, on the one hand it seems a little strange initially... but they will make good if any little things need to be corrected at delivery

Use the wire transfer option they provide. It’s fast and secure. You have till day before delivery appt to pay up.

I got an SMS text message from a random number - “send $75k to this routing/account number” - eventually, the same showed up on the web site, but they need to knock it off with contacting you from random phone numbers with instructions for the delivery process.

Yeah, they should know better tbh. They make vehicles but they are a tech company. I didn’t get that text, but I know you aren’t alone.

Mine was also stripe. I did have a guide help with those steps - a luxury many didn’t have. It was honestly the easiest vehicle purchase process I’ve ever had.
