The only controllable variable is speed (although I guess picking one route over another can yield efficiency benefits)
major factors for efficiency are speed, temp/air density (elevation). With non-LT tires at 40 MPH efficiency might be 2.75 MPK, but only 1.75 MPK at 80 mph. Can also subtract 0.2 MPK if 40 F instead of 60 F, or add 0.2 MPK if 80 F instead of 60 F….

LT sizes going to be around 20% less efficient than the lighter weight tires. Increasing PSI on LTs can reduce that slightly.

I’ve seen limited increases in efficiency when using Conserve mode…best case is it might increase range by around 3-4%…
So with the cold (CA standards) weather we’ve had has mad a dent. I understand about the speed effecting it. I can live with 2.0+ and be super happy and even letting off the peddle a little to help that.

I had an EV prior and range was horrible. I’m so pumped after the trip this weekend. Ride was incredible, used Autonomous Driving 70% of the time, and range was more than enough I won’t have “range-anxiety”. System is fairly accurate. And vehicle and tires felt great in the snow!

How are on-road driving dynamics, i.e. grip in corners and such? Gotten to do any spicy driving? ATs can be "squishy" and unpleasant, though the Pirellis were surprisingly good in such use cases. I was thinking of getting the OEM (smaller) Goodyears, but these really seem to hit a lot great characteristics on the nose!

I did drive it hard passing cars on the way down the mountain part of my drive and taking some of the winding road a bit fast. Handled great. It’s a heavy SUV but stuck well on the turns, within reason. While not a sporty sedan it sure feels like it at times. Not squishy or loose when I need grip on the road.

I’ve had non EV version on prior trucks and SUVs and have always been very happy with the tire. This EV version is fantastic on the Rivian. Love the look too. The Goodyear tire is very compelling. I can imagine it being similar to the stats on this tire. I went with Toyo bc my experience, weight and the look. I do only light off-roading so it’s perfect for my expectations. Others that do more serious stuff should chime in.

Close to 800 mi and avg is 2.0 mi/kw on the nose. It’s been cold too so I’m excited to see avg when things warm up.

Hope that helps.

Haven’t been to the mountains yet. Did have to avoid an idiot who almost crashed into me immediately after getting them installed haha. Initial impressions is that it is the same or better as far as handling goes. For AP, it handles very well in Firm with excellent grip in corners but still quite good in Moderate and probably good enough for most drivers. One very noticeable improvement (for me at least) is how it handles bumps and road imperfections in Moderate. Doesn’t ever get any sort of bounciness that I used to get the Pirellis.
I used to exclusively drive with Firm for this reason but have been using Moderate so far. Haven’t use sport yet but maybe I’ll try that tonight.

one observation I’ve had is that ride quality seems best at warmer temps above freezing, seems to degrade a bit below freezing. Not really bothersome because it’s still better.

overall my impression is it in the same category as the OEM in that it handles better than most AT tires with better efficiency that most AT tires. but it is also clearly better than OEM in certain dimensions (wet/snow/ice traction, ride quality).

All depends on your personal use of the truck. My usage is primarily passenger focused and light trails. For me SL was perfect for my usage, good solution to help me trim down weight of each tire, as well as having a more comfortable ride.

Only you can answer your question. E rated tire is more heavy load focused and stiffer tire. Great if you tow something heavy, use the truck for heavy loads, or even doing serious off-roading. On-road experience will be less comfortable than SL.

I am not an expert. Most of my decision was based on online research. You may want to consult with a tire specialist or sales rep based on actual specifics for your usage. That’ll help you get exactly what you need.

I’m loving these tires. I am still wearing them in but I do feel range has slightly increased and it is a more comfortable ride.

Yes, I got the AW09. They were amazing to do business with, quickly reply to any questions and shipped everything just as quick. There are tons of threads regarding their wheels. Highly recommend.

SL* - You want people to think you go offroad
LT - You actually go offroad
* - You are the king of light off-roading and are overly confident in your abilities…you want the best MPK and are willing to take the chance (you also have a full-size spare plus capability to repair if need be).

This is hilarious and mostly true. However, you have to acknowledge that a Rivian R1S completed the Rubicon trail on SL tires and is still the only stock EV to do so. I would have much more confidence in a good off road driver on SL shoes than a techbro on LT shoes.

Yes! That's us exactly! My wife loves the look of the 20" AT's but would never consider allowing me to take HER Rivian any place where it might get scratched...

FWIW, just because it completed the trail doesn't mean the tires did so without repair or replacement in the process. Ditto to the fact that there was a good amount of body damage after the fact.

I had a Wrangler Rubicon before this that was pretty heavily modded for trail driving and I absolutely would not take the R1T I have anywhere close to the trails that thing went through with relative ease. It also had LT tires on it because the fuel economy was already laughably bad anyway haha. That said the R1T is a LOT LOT LOT better to daily drive than any Wrangler modded or not.

Body and other damage is part of the experience. I had a Jeep Rubicon as well that I traded in on the Rivian so am well versed in navigating off road. My experience with the Rivian is the opposite here in Colorado. 15 inches of clearance goes a long way in making trails that tested my skid plates on the Jeep easy to pass with the R1S. There are well documented downsides to the Quad motor that don't need to be debated here. But the reality is that the vehicle is less important than the driver's experience and common sense.

That statement is true regardless of vehicle and use condition.

I agree that the 15in gets you a lot but so do 35's and a 3.5" lift. The articulation that can only be had with a live axle at the front is also unparalleled. That said, driving a Wrangler across the country really sucks.
