Edit: I’m order number 3770 (or 2770 because of the whole “subtract 1000” thing)

Edit 2: I pre-ordered 12/13/2018

Maybe consider changing the wheel tire combo to 20’s since your seemed destined to go camping.

Hah. I’m getting some more aggressive aftermarket ATs, so I went with the 22’s for my daily usage purposes

Getting the best of both. Good thinking, especially for seasonal shifts where tires and wheels make a big difference. Two sets of wheels and tires almost a necessity where I live.

Well, this might be the wrong thread and pretty meaningless in the delay debate, but this Rivian in the Oakland CA hills had legit CA temporary plates (took the photo 25 min ago)...so someone got one ;)

Yes, employees in Irvine and the bay area have been getting them recently. Nice to know that they aren't all being sheltered inside Normal.

Definitely. I mean Bellevue probably doesn’t have quite the dramatic weather changes that WY has, but I’d do enjoy the occasional off-road adventure haha

We will have to agree to disagree here.

I can't imagine any business (that wasn't run by a bunch of assholes) that wouldn't care if they suddenly lost 50% of their orders. I mean pre-IPO that would be catastrophic from a PR prospective. Even post IPO as a publicly traded company this would look really bad to investors, they would be left asking themselves what the hell is happening and would want an explanation.

I can tell you first hand as I canceled my first Rivian order from 2019 they asked what they could have done better.
We can agree to disagree but that doesn’t address the points I raised.

When analyzing it from their point of view, given:
1. They have more demand than they can supply
2. They can charge more for future reservations than past reservations
3. They don’t have to give free wheel upgrades to LE cancellations
4. They are losing a subset of potential customers who are already dissatisfied

How is this a terrible outcome from their perspective?

It does appear the 2018 orders may be getting prioritized over 2019 orders, which is an encouraging sign if true.
The only thing I can think of then is what @timf said above; that 2018 orders are being prioritized above all others, at least right now
Looks very possible & it was one of my initial thoughts. As an early preorder holder, I hope they're giving higher priority to earlier orders...

It's also a possibility that godfodder's R1T moved lower in the priority line due to logistics, or even changing focus to earlier preorders. I wouldn't take this as a blanket delay until we get more data points.
Take a deep breath here, people. More information will come out, and if there are additional delays, it's out of our control anyway.

Again the original claim was that Rivian wouldn't care if 50% of preorder holders canceled tomorrow. Which I said is nonsense.

To your points:

1. I fully agree, that is what I would say is a big point of the IPO to build additional capacity for significantly perceived future demand and future vehicles.
2. Future reservations will include a mix of different battery sizes, configurations, models etc. Different orders will have different margins, LE orders won't necessarily be lower margin orders especially compared to say a Explore pkg order with a smaller battery when announced. I believe they have already said they will prioritize higher margin orders to some degree anyway.
3. I doubt the different wheel upgrades actually cost them any more either. They clearly ordered a shit ton of the standard 20" ATs since almost every vehicle seen has them.
4. The point is to not dissatisfy them in the first place.

On top of all of that, as I already argued, the public perception for an auto company is pretty important.

Clearly there isn't an abundance of people on this thread saying they plan on canceling so we are nowhere near there, just a consensus that the communication from Rivian and preorder holders could be a lot better.

Indeed, far from a well-oiled machine. The chain of priority for believing what you see/hear:

  1. S1 or other future official filings
  2. Email from RJ himself
  3. Other official corporate communications via email, social media, etc.
  4. Rivian Website
  5. Guide/Customer Service
They won't always jive, so anything from higher in the list automatically supersedes anything below it, no matter how many times a Guide/CS bot repeats it.
Currently I'd place the website under CS. It still says 200.8in long for the R1S...

I was just told by my Guide today that my new estimated delivery is by the end of February, 2022. Changed from October, 2021. *Supply chain constraints were quoted as the number one contributor.
Did you happen to order it in black?

My rep is supposed to be calling me today with "a lot of new information." We also had been told delivery by late October. My reservation was in early 2019. Will try to post what I hear later today.
As a fellow Georgia resident, I'll be interested to hear what you find out.

FWIW, I contacted my guide yesterday after reading about OP's delay to find out if there was any new information on the possibility of my delivery being delayed further. He replied that there were no changes and that they are still on track for my R1T to be delivered before the end of Jan 2022 (my original delivery date). Of course changes/delays do happen and can be expected. I will report back if/when I am advised of any delays. Just wanted to add another data point for those of you extrapolators out there.

More data points - Pre-order date Nov 26, 2018. Order # 1351. Config LE LG/MB 20", (current) extras - tent, shuttle, rubber floor mats.
