Hi. I'm new to Rivian (2025 R1S Tri-motor), but I've been all-in on EV's since 2017. My previous EV's have all been rated around 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. I know the Tri-motor is rated 2.9 seconds. But what I'd like to know is: is that 2.9 available in Launch Mode only? Or is it also in Sport Mode?

Why is it important? 2.9 vs 3.3 is not a big difference unless you're timing your 0-60s and need bragging rights. The quad motor an the tri-motor are FAST - you will feel it in your bones and your passengers will scream.

The reason that I'm asking is that the g-forces that I feel in Rivian Tri-motor Sport Mode when I "floor it" don't seem as strong as my previous EV's that were rated 0-60 in 4.5.

So what I'm trying figure out is: Is there something wrong with my vehicle?

That is why my question remains: Is the posted 2.9 rating for Launch Mode only? Or is it for Sport Mode when not launching?

Try sport mode, reduced stability. What you may be experiencing is the throttle curve reducing the "G force" feel.

Launch mode only based on my testing so far. Sport is pretty much the same as the G1 quad.

In all purpose mode in an R1T quad gen1 - i'm beating 4.5s all day. Lowering, stiffening are the only differences I've seen in "sport mode" vs "all purpose" - although it looks like that could change.

Sport mode will be about 3.1-3.3.

That sounds like good advice. I will try your recommendation.
You may want to try to putting it into lowest settings too.
Supposedly it helps on Gen1 quad. Maybe Gen2 is the same way

By the way, my previous gas burning vehicle did 0-60 in ~4.0 seconds. But it would feel as much or more g during launch. I’m sure there is some explanation to it but at the end of the day it’s just the feeling. Every car will have different feel to it.

Gen 1 QM ....doesn't matter you still need to stop at red lights and stop signs...in 2 months you won't care...honestly best power is doing 85 and floor it to pass people who are playing games is a better feeling ..

The throttle mapping on Rivian is not as good as Tesla. They deliver the power gradually vs punchy.

What wheel/tire config are you on? You'll be traction limited by the 20ATs and 0-60 times will be higher. I believe all of the Rivian vehicles are rated for 0-60 with the most aggressive factory tire choice.

I think you’re way off here. Sport mode in my gen1 T quad is 3.0 seconds, all purpose around 3.3-3.4. This is confirmed with Dragy so it’s definitely accurate

In the Gen 1 Quad on AT I get 3.5 0-60 verified with Dragy and in line with true dragstrip times.

0-60 with 800+ Hp is all about throttle mapping and traction. For the gen 1 quad the sport throttle map is great and will dump pretty much full power as soon as you hit it as long as the battery is warm. For us without launch mode we then need to make some choices on traction settings. in most situations traction on will be the worst. The computer will pull back power and err on the side of caution to avoid any wheel slip. Reduced is pretty good for most normal roads and the computer will actively try to limit wheel slip by reducing power to slipping wheels. If you have a good surface, nice warm day and grippy tires then traction control off will be best.

Launch mode beats all of these as it is designed to interven just enough to get the best time.

AP is not designed for 0-60 and will result in a slow time as the power comes on much slower and you will not have full powere regardless of traction untill over 45 or so
The yellow bar is actually a completely accurate read out of power.

I have an entire detailed thread about this but the gen 1 Quad will actually not use full power to the front motors in sport mode over about 45MPH. my assumption is this is to keep the rear bias for sporty driving. I am incredibly curious if the Tri motor (and gen 2 quad) will give full power at all speeds in sport mode seeing as it has a true mechanical rear bias
