I got my plates today in the mail. Went to install them and the paper plate is just held on with 4 screws and there is no license plate holder. Do the 2nd Gen R1S come with license plate holders and they're just stuck somewhere in the car and i need to go find them? Or is Rivian really cheap-ing out on a holder on a $100k car?

I prefer clean without one
I wondered about that - but thought the metal plate might scratch the paint over time.

And FYI if you pay $100k for anything you shouldn't be buying anything essential after picking up your purchase. And its just a missed opportunity for Rivian - id have put a plater holder on all the cars with something like "Rivian - Want to know more?" and then a 2D bar code.

What paint? It's a plastic bumper. Everything the plate touches is black plastic.

Yeah, let's put a tacky catchline in small font below the giant R I V I A N letters above the plate. And whip out our barcode readers to scan it.

Sorry not sorry, but after working in auto wholesale, dealer logos, stickers, plastic icon lettering, and license plate frames really grind my gears. It was always just extra work to remove those annoying things and clean it up after. So when someone not only WANTS it but then COMPLAINS about not having it, my mind is really blown.

A license plate frame is “essential” ?!
Somehow all my cars have survived without one.
Reminds me of when I went to an independent LR shop with my LR3 and they decided to put a frame on for me without asking to advertise their shop. That was the end of using them!

None of my vehicles have a frame. None of them have scratches on the paint.

I find the frame most often ugly.

A license plate frame is far from “essential”. It’s a vanity item at best, and the vast majority are ugly.

If Rivian tried to put anything like you describe above on my vehicle, it would have been removed by them before leaving the delivery process. My car is not a free rolling advertisement for any company. Even one as much as I support as Rivian.

None of my vehicles ever came with a frame, just bolt holes and some only have 2 holes so not sure why the standard would be different for Rivian.

I HATE it when dealers put a frame (or worse yet a sticker) on your car with their name...they aren't paying me to advertise for them.

That being said, Rivian doesn't give you a frame but you can buy one if you like. I went with a $10 black silicone one off Amazon that seems to work just fine.

Riviot seems to be a keyboard warrior with anger issues. Simple questions require simple answers, not animosity.

I’m talking about the rear plate - and yes that’s paint. And yes the plate is going to vibrate while on there. I guess I will go find a plate on Amazon.

Who knew a license plate holder could ignite such passions - no wonder this country is incapable of having sensible discussions with each other about basic issues.

Except a license plate holder IS NOT essential.
Giant OEM lettering and badging aside, should Rivian have some kind of revenuable marketing agreement with owners to sport extra advertising on vehicles. Nah, not even then for me.

I went with this item:
License plate tool holder
3D printed item from XCD Shop.
Not actually a frame… mounts behind the tag with a small unnoticeable compartment that sticks out on each side of the tag. Used to hold very small essential tools for emergency access (fender well liner release) to the frunk in event of 12V failure. Because the tag mounts to each side of this instead of directly to the vehicle, the tag is separated from contact with the the vehicle.

Easy there....

If you only are worried about vibration and potential scratches (which has never happen on any of my vehicles) there is a simple clean solution like this:

Rivian R1T R1S Rear License Plate Holder? 1743176134587-54

Does not add footprint and comes in black too.
