driving a Wrangler across the country really sucks.
This ultimately is the reason I got rid of it. It's more work driving 3 hours at highway speed in a Rubicon than the most harrowing off roading.

You probably already know this but the difference between the R1S and R1T off road is significant. 15" of wheelbase is better for towing but not conducive to rock crawling, which is why the R1T could not complete the Rubicon. This is as important as the lift on your Jeep. If you had a 2 door Jeep your R1T had a 40" longer wheelbase (20" for the unlimited), which no amount of lift will negate.

Edit: It amazes me that people are claiming the CyberTruck's prowess off road as its wheelbase is 145" (!!!!). No thank you.

Yup, agreed with wheel base being too long in the truck but I do use the truck for truck things so it's neccessary for me to have it.

The cybertruck has many other negatives on my list before offroad ability even comes into play haha. Not sure it even cracks the top 10 negatives for me.

Are yours are the higher load index version of the Toyo Open Country A/T III EV? They are the same width as the Pirelli and 2 lbs heavier so should have similar or better performance. Some are just getting the SL version of the same tire, which is significantly lighter (45 lbs) with 0.5 inches narrower tread, which would make it not quite as good off road but in theory better efficiency on road. I do quite a bit of off roading so trying to decide between the 2 versions of the Toyo.
Looks to be the same width.

The Toyo 275/65R20 116H were showing backorder at TR so ordered at DT. They called and said they were on backorder for a couple of weeks but then they came in two days later and I got them installed yesterday. Look great. Driving to the mountains tomorrow will take some pics and give initial impressions.

@DrBad — looking forward to your thoughts. I’ve only got 18k miles on the OEM Pirellis but I can‘t take the noise anymore — need to order some new rubber very s00n! Have a great weekend all! Stay safe out there….

Have you rotated the tires?

15k here, due for 2nd rotation but can't take the noise either.

I figure I am going to need to buy one set of tires before the 45k miles on our lease either way. I can either put up with the howl for a bunch more miles or buy a new set now, enjoy them for their full lifetime and then put the OE tires back on if I need them when the lease ends.

Is that guy math?

I ultimately went with the Goodyears over the Toyos to replace my OE Pirelli AT's. I don't plan on taking the thing off road any more than a gravel/dirt road so bigger 34's aren't really a need for me. I can save ~$500 on the tires alone along with whatever efficiency and performance gains that come with a smaller tire going with the Goodyears vs the Toyos so it was a no brainer. They get installed today!

I knew a guy that swapped out tires for his BMW at receipt of lease since he knew he'd have to replace at return, bought something he liked so he can enjoy the car with tires he liked then return with originals. I think logic is sound.

@gtrivian Forgive me for piggy backing on your review, but I don't think a separate thread is helpful, so I'll just post some numbers here comparing my first 1,000 miles with the Toyo Open Country A/Tiii EV 275/65R20 116H to the stock Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus 275/65R20 116H:

Vehicle: August 2023 R1T LE, with underbody shield.

Background: I got punctures in three of my five Pirellis, two of which were not repairable, so I needed new tires. I also got a second spare for when traveling in the boonies, so that's why I opted not to move up to a Load Range "E" tire.

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus 275/65R20 116H (November 2023 - June 2025): 23,176 miles; 2.22 miles/kWh, per trip meter

Toyo Open Country A/Tiii EV 275/65R20 116H (June 2025-July 2025): 990 miles, 2.24 miles/kWh, per trip meter (with tire selection set to 20" All terrain "aftermarket" tires).

Note: It's not clear to me whether the vehicle assumes the "aftermarket" aspect ratio is 65, or something else. If it's "something else," then my reported numbers for the Toyo are off.

I don't put much faith in subjective comments about tires, so I won't include any here.

Just saw that they now have the LT open country EV version! LT275 /65 R20 126S E1 BSW. They are 517 per tire vs 435 for the regular LT open country. I wonder if I should make the move to the EV version or is it all a gimmick?
