I noticed that the Alexa voice volume was way low when it is responding to a command for Amazon Music and not in Alexa mode aka being in FM or something else

Yup I have the same issue, alexa voice is very quiet for the first 5 to 7 seconds and ramps up to normal. Try asking it the weather for next week and you'll see the difference.

I noticed that today. It's like the car mutes the audio/music response (audio vol controls linked?) for her Ding acknowledging she's listening, then if the response is long enough it is beyond the audio reduction expiration window and music comes back (if playing previously) with her talking at a normal volume.

With that in mind, it seems like her voice response is entirely on the music/media columns and abides by vol reductions in activation, when it should be entirely on the Alexa audio vol controls/channel.

Rivian really needs to start developing an in-car model for handling requests locally instead of relying on Amazon's remote servers—it’s seriously slowing things down. I recently picked up the R1S Gen 2, and I’ve gotta say, the voice assistant was a letdown. The silver lining? It might get fixed with an OTA update… so I’m keeping my fingers crossed! 🤞

Even if I can't hear all the responses, it does seem to handle all sorts of car controls quite well. So there is that?

I am seeing the same symptoms. Rivian was going to send out a service van. But they decided that it really is a software update bug and that they will correct it in a future update.

I’d like to concur. Alexa sound is messed up. Raising her volume doesn’t actually raise her volume. Commands are also affected. She could do with a course of antibiotics. Agree the Overall sound is diminished across the board.

I have a 2023 Rivian R1S that I love. However, the 2025.10.1 update caused strange things to happen with Alexa. I cannot control the volume of the Alexa voice. I can change the volume of the alert tones just not the voice. Also, if I understood the update description correctly, I should be able to ask for CNN on XMRadio. If I try that, it tells me that it cannot find that on Amazon Music.

I have tried soft and hard resets to no avail.

Anyone else seeing this or am I alone?
Yup
worked perfect before

In the process of trouble shooting the Alexa problem with a service adviser, I did two soft reboots and one hard reboot. I also let the car reset by going to sleep.

I'll try a soft reboot again with the drive mode screen.

Rivian is sending a mobile service truck out in about a week to do further trouble shooting.
Let me know mine is now the same
pai in the butt now because can not hear her confirm who she is calling

Yup exactly but when she confirms who you are calling she does not talk long enough for the volume to increase

Interesting if you are using navigation the Alexa voice is louder. 🤷🏻

I’m sure it will be fixed in an upcoming OTA or 2.

She is now totally non-responsive in my 23 RT1 . When I speak (or shout) 'Alexa' here is no glow above rhe display and music doesn't reduce volume.

I tried a couple full resets, in a different order each time. No change. I use her to open my charging port mostly, so it's not a huge loss.

They could not fix mine; said it has been reported to HQ and will be addressed in a future (TBD) SW update. Also does the same thing for me in streaming music from phone (music glitches). Recommend you scroll to the bottom of your Rivian app to "Share Feedback" and report this issue. They need more input to advance it in the hierarchy of need...
