My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Update - I got a new tonneau, but it is a 1-1 replacement for the one I had. Not the rolling type. It's MUCH quieter now so I'm happy with it, but goes to show that "V2" isn't necessarily the same thing depending which service intake person you speak with.

Happy there's resolution, teeny bit of entitlement-sadness it's not the roller.
----

Truck is in for half-shaft and jounce lines, and thankfully (?) my tonneau was acting up before the appt. I got it on the service ticket, and managed (miraculously) to catch it on video for supporting media.

They sent me a note in the app saying it was replaced with the V2 tonneau. I had the 1.5, which never sounded right. It wasn't just loud, it popped while retracting and the plastic cover over the housing would bump and distort while closing.

Will report back when I get the truck back, hopefully this week (but likely next - because Jounce Lines are on backorder).

Which SC are you at? My Gen 1 truck has been at SJ for the past 3 weeks for the TC and other items. I’ve had supporting videos of it stopping after opening up 2 slats when the sun bakes the truck. I’m hoping they change out my 1.5 to v2.

South SF. I'm a little suspicious that it's actually the rolling gen2, vs. the 1.5, but will find out when the truck comes back.

Got my truck back from San Jose today. Unfortunately, not v2. Paperwork says they "replaced TC with updated parts," so is that v1.75??? It's running smooth but we'll see how long that lasts. Headed to Joshua Tree next week for 5 days.

As an early adopter (17xx), I've had a flawlessly functioning cover (though I've been hesitant to use it). Strangely, Rivian proactively contacted me last year to upgrade to V2. Dropped off Saturday 8am, picked up 1:30pm same day.

I assumed this was standard procedure for everyone now.

You got v2? The thin slats that's shown on the Dune edition?

I didn't have a problem with the original TC on my very, very early VIN (004x), but they swapped it out January 2024. It's binded up a few times and I took it several times for them to let the truck sit for weeks and then not detect a problem because the weather cooled down, even though I had videos to support it. So they replaced it this time with "updated parts" but it's still the same wide slats.

Those are V3 slats on the Dune....that is what I call them, as they are the third iteration...

I kept seeing it as v2 for the thin slats. v1...original, v1.5....replacement/retrofit starting 12/2023, v2....smaller slats introduced on Dune. I saw the smaller slats on a Gen2 R1T last weekend at the Rivian Space Grand Opening in San Jose. It looked and functioned really nice. Could barely hear it retract. The Service Advisor stated today that they had the original TC's that would fall apart, then the replacement that still had issues like mine, then another version that still looked the same but had some hardware changes, and then the newest ones that are the smaller slats. I'll just wait and see how long this one holds up. Good thing I have extended my warranty to 156K if it has any issues.

99xx VIN, V1 tonneau. Truck arrived, I tried to open the tonneau, and it immediately fell off its rail. I fixed it, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I use it all the time, I've never cleaned the mechanism (short of hosting the tonneau off) and I've never greased it.

Rivian has never reached out to me to replace it. I'll replace it whenever it fails, and I'll try to get them to upgrade it.

I‘m still on the OG version. 3 years old and still working as intended, though i use it relatively infrequently. I dry lubed the rails once, but thats the extent of maintenance I’ve performed.

I have asked a couple times about getting the updated version, but am told that I will be contacted when it‘s my turn. Apparently it is still not yet my turn. Maybe next year.

I just had my PTC warranty replaced a few weeks ago since the one that got installed last year froze open.

The SC said I was getting the next generation one and I got excited thinking it was the new roll up one.

It turns out it was just a newer version of the slated one... but I will say the new one is faster and quieter than the one that got installed May 2024.

I looked at the work orders and it was a different part number so it definitely is a new revision.
The replacement one that just went in was part# PT00000379-M. The one that went in back in May of last year was PT00000379-K so presumably, there have been several revisions.

It would be pretty cool if they start retrofitting with the roll up version. Maybe they are now?

You're dry lubing wrong, gotta spray that stuff everywhere like once a month!

Ironically I never had an issue with my tonneau, like almost two years, until after I lubed it once.
