Tesla board members about a month ago reached out to several executive search firms to find a successor for CEO Elon Musk, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the discussions.

The current status of the succession planning could not be determined, WSJ said.

The EV maker has faced declining sales and profits, with investor concerns mounting over Musk's involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he has led efforts to cut federal jobs.

Everyone keeps saying "the board was hand picked by Elon", if so they were probably just doing their fiduciary duty as board members or at least making it look like they were doing that.

Be careful what you wish for. What’s apple done since Jobs passed?

Make billions of dollars and dozens of new products?
If by 'new' you mean 'uninspired' or 'iterative' then I agree...

And billions doesn't sound too impressive for the world's first trillion dollar company and former most valuable.

Yeah only AirPods and Apple Watch which are ubiquitous and best selling in their categories now. And they are currently the only company over $3T, not former. But Jobs best product legacy was Apple itself. Musk is too much of a narcissist to care about his successor

Yep, +559% is great. But not compared to the +6713% in Jobs last 10 years...

Or the +15839% over his tenure
