Theres a RV park near my Cabin that strictly says no EV Charging. I asked the campground host about it, and its not because of the cost, but because the "owners" think that most EV fires happen from charging. Since they are in a Forest I can see how they would want to stay away from the fire thing, but I think they need to re-evaluate their thoughts about charging causing fires.
Interesting. The bottom line is it's their place, so they get to make the rules. But I would respectfully submit that they might want to consider: a) How common are EV fires?, b) are there any wild/forrest fires known to have been caused by EV's?, and c) what is the scientific consensus on the cause of increased wild fire activity? (Spoiler alert: not EV's.)

Again their place, their rules. And I certainly share their desire to avoid fires. But my guess is that the reluctance to allow EV charging on the part of most campground operators is based on cost of electricity. But I'd submit that there's a business opportunity here that can benefit both sides!

Hello!

I've been lurking here for a few months to learn more about Rivians.

Today I took delivery of a Dune Edition R1S!
Welcome and congrats! You probably already know that we are a squirrelly group, but tons of knowledge to be shared so ask plenty of questions.

5 days, although it could have been 2 and started as 7-14.

I was original quoted 1-2 weeks, as the vehicle needed to be shipped from Southern California. The timeframe wasn't set in stone at that point, as the local service center was awaiting scheduling by their transportation company.

The day after making the order official, I was notified that one had just become available locally due to a customer being unavailable to take delivery. I could have had it the day after that, although there were logistics on my part that pushed it off a couple of days. I suppose one advantage of selecting the Dune edition is that there is really only one option - the color of the wheels. This likely increased my chances of an exact match suddenly becoming available.

Hello to the forum!
I am happy to see a Rivian forum so active already. It's exciting to see an American company producing such a great product in this new EV space.

I have an R2 reservation. It is intended to replace my Toyota 4Runner. Other vehicles include an Acura MDX (Mrs R2D2TOO has that one) and my fun car - a 2019 Corvette.

New to EVs, but I love the idea. I know there are growing pains ahead, especially when it comes to charging on the road. Here to learn!

I love in the Dallas area.

Hi all! I’m one of the many with a deposit on an R2. It’ll be our first EV - looking forward to it!

Rivian R1S Gen 2
Adding my intro to the thread. I took delivery of my R1S Gen 2 Max battery, dual in December of 24. I traded an Ioniq5 which was my first EV. I liked it but the ICCU issues were too frustrating (though I had no issues).

I’m loving my Rivian and am about to drive to Madison, WI from Asheville in a couple of weeks, which will be my longest trip to date with the Rivian. I’m relocating to be closer to family and can’t wait to a) explore and b) be WAY closer to a service center!

All,
Not a Rivian owner at this time but a huge fan of everything EV especially the Trucks. Recently purchased the new Silverado EV RST after a long and lengthy wait. I have not had the chance yet to drive a Rivian but park next to one everyday. Great looking trucks but I have to admit I love the size and features in the 25 Silverado. Looks like Rivian is upping their game though with the new Quad Motor. I will definately have to take one of those for a drive to compare. The downside of the Silverado is huge battery and huge range does not equal efficiency. A good day in my Silverado is about 2.2kw/mile. Luckly free charging at work so I dont really care right now. Getting ready for a cross country road trip, so we will see if my mind changes at that point.

I am honestly thinking about trading off my R1S for the Sierra EV. At 2.2, your actually hitting the average that I am in my R1S. The battery/range for me is the big plus.. The minus is no 800+ hp. I know I want make the trade, as a R1T just fits in my garage, and a Sierra/Silvy wont.

The problem and the benefit it that the Sierra and the Silverado are full size. I have to park mine outside. The 2.2 is a good day...off highway driving. If I am going 80 then it is probably closer to 1.7. I can still go as far I would want to without having to stop for a break. But the charge time is probably a bit longer on the Silvy since the battery pack is huge. This is going to be my hurricane backup power for the house though. Both great trucks!! The big perk though is being able to take this to the local chevy dealer for all the maintenance and repairs. None yet...but there is always something.

I seriously considered the Silverado when shopping for a tow vehicle. My wife vetoed it due to the size. She (and I) did like the idea of all those dealers/service centers though. And that truck does have some range.

We're pretty happy with our R1S. We get about 1.75 mi/kWh pulling the trailer.
