What is the correct position to place an iPhone 15 pro on the gen 2 charger? No matter where I try, I still lose battery percentage… (ignore the before 12pm that was different charger at home)

There is no position where this won't happen. Let me explain why...
Modern iPhones' cameras stick out about 4mm. The charging coil of the iPhone is a few mm under the bottom edge of the camera bump. That means that the camera bump creates about a 4mm distance (air gap) between the Tx (transmitter) coil of the Rivian's wireless charger, and the Rx (receiver coil) of the iPhone. Not only that, but the coil of the iPhone tilts under certain angle compared to the coil of the Rivian. That air gap & tilt lead to tremendous (% wise) loss of energy which dissipates in the form of heat.
Now, to add insult to injury, iPhone uses MagSafe standard as preferred standard. That works at around 350Khz resonating frequency of the coil. Rivian in the other hand only seems to support Qi1 which works at 127Khz. As a result, the iPhone can't extract much juice from the Rivian, and as a result of these 2 points above, you get a lot of heat and little charging which may lead to battery loss rather than gain.

We have this solution (now redesigned to work on both Gen1 and Gen2):
https://twraps.com/products/magsafe-compatible-dual-wireless-charger-for-rivian-r1t-r1s

But notice that some Gen2 vehicles have issues with the USB-C ports...I can dig into technical details if you want, but my point is that depending on whether your Gen2 has issues or not, you may or may not:
* Be able to charge 2 phones at the same time
* Achieve fast charging

If you mostly want to charge 1 phone and prioritize on fast charging we have this:

thank you for the deep dive details! The Rivian SC tested with iPhone 12 mini and called it within spec. But obviously that phone doesn’t have a 4mm camera bump like you mentioned.
Guess I’ll just be using wired usb-c for now.

I’m baffled at whoever designed the Rivian gen2 charger…

it’s almost like some team designed the internals. And another team designed the top cover with the middle divider. And none of the coils can align with the phone. Plus all the middle coils seem wasteful?!

also IIRC, the gen 1 had 3 rows of coils. Gen2 only has 2 rows.

Judging by how well it works, I suspect it was Gary.

Here's my current fix:
  • Samsung Galaxy S21
  • Stress/squeeze ball cut into 4ths, then a little more taken off

Seems to work pretty well.
