Update: just got a call and they will be hauling it back to Dallas service center on Monday. Hope it's an easy (fast) fix.
Update 2: Service Center replaced an exterior door handle and multi-function control module. The door handle had a faulty sensor - which when coupled with the faulty control module - was creating the "Charging Unavailable Until Serviced" error message which was preventing the truck from shifting into "gear". There was never anything wrong with my charging system. On a related note, this problem also solved the lack of access to Alexa app and ability for vehicle to receive firmware updates.

Hope to get the truck back within next 24 hours to ensure this is a permanent fix. While I hate having lost use of the truck for 2 weeks, everyone in the Service communication chain has been outstanding.

The only thing scary about this whole situation is there are now multiple ways that the truck won't shift into gear from failed components. I get things fail, it's part of life, but something failing and throwing an error message to get it fixed vs something failing and stranding you on the road are two very different things.

I think there might be some software updates in the future to hopefully prevent this situation from happening.

Well said. Charging unavailable doesn't seem like a problem that should prevent vehicle from being driveable. At least if SOC > 10%. Seems like an extreme safety mechanism.

So I started getting that same ”charging unavailable until serviced error about a week or so ago”. It flashed up so fast that I didn’t quite catch it until the truck put itself into park at a stop sign and I couldn’t get it in gear. Multiple warnings came up during the issue: the one I already mentioned, plus ”DC fast charging unavailable until serviced”, and “charger not fully connected”.

called for support, got truck to go into drive as they answered and got back home luckily. Soft reset and a full reset seemed to fix the issue. They basically said the reset seemed to work, so call if it happens again. I mentioned this forum and issues documented here from almost a year ago, and they said they have no record of similar issues (at least the phone support team didn’t).

A week later with no issues and a couple home charging sessions. Drove it to dinner last night with no issue and then this morning it happened again. Got the charger unavailable until serviced and then it put itself in park at next full stop (thank god just a neighborhood stop sign and not a major intersection). Took about 25 secs of me pulling on the stalk to get into gear. As I got it going to get home, got the “charger not fully connected“ while going about 30mph… Caught all but the first message on video and emailed to support team.

waiting to hear back from service on what the next step is…

scared to leave the neighborhood in the truck. I’m in DFW area, but service center is 45 miles of major roads… worried it will stop me somewhere along the way. I really love this truck, but ugh…

I have the exact same issue at under 200 miles on newly delivered vehicle. It sounds like they are going to take it to service center. Charges level 2 so far. No DC.

I also want to note that my first Rivian is a year old this coming week, has over 15,000 miles, and never has had a single problem. I would strongly recommend the Rivian. Best vehicle I have ever owned.

I took delivery of my R1S last Tuesday. I have yet to even charge my vehicle and ran into the same problem as I came to a stop sign. The vehicle went into park and flashed a warning “charging unavailable until serviced”.

Fortunately I was able to get it back into drive within about 15 seconds as all the cars behind me started honking.

Did a reset fix the issue? I only have 89 miles and have yet to log a ticket or call support.

Has anyone else received this message? I've gotten it a couple of times this week upon attempt to start the vehicle. It flashes the message and refuses to shift out of park. Has always reset itself upon a soft reboot or exiting the vehicle and re-awakening/opening it back up. Have a service call into the system, but curious if anyone else has dealt with this?
Yes. Had mine in for service 2 months ago. Replaced wiring harness. Said it was fixed. Dropped it off last week for service and currently driving a rental for the same problem.

The service center fixed my issue by replacing the “Module, Central Gateway (Remove and Replace)” (from the zero dollar invoice).

I haven’t had any repeat issues since they fixed it back in May. We’ve driven it a couple thousand miles since then with both home charging and a few DC fast charges

I have started to get the "Charging unavailable until serviced" message. It was after charging on a L2 charger outside on a rainy day. I'm wondering if some water may have gotten into the charge port? Later in the day my charge port door would not open via touch, truck control or phone app. Soft reset didn't fix but a hard reset fixed and I was able to charge on my home charger. I'm still getting the error and my service appointment is 6 weeks out! I'm hoping to escalate to mobile service or an ealier date. Very worried that the truck is going to leave me stranded.

Soft reset is aka infotainment reset. This is not an infotainment issue. If issue returns there is probably an underlying problem and it’d be time to contact Support/Service.

Happens every time going through car wash in Gen2 R1S. Charges fine despite message. Not sure what’s triggering it. Not happening in our Gen1.

I got the same error after going to a car wash and it was remedied by burning car wash mode on and off again after I got home. Just got the same error today many weeks later, but I did not get a car wash. The temperature has changed really dramatically and it’s very wet now and well above freezing. I put a DC charger in the destination and drove Alf for bit and the battery heat it up and the air has disappeared from my phone and the car.
I’m still gonna fall in love the issue because I don’t wanna deal with this while I’m stuck out on the road somewhere
