Well, I guess it could change but it's highly unlikely if they just put it in the S1 for investors. The estimate part relies on what percentage of owners you think will elect for it, I don't think they estimated what the cost would be (because they are in control of setting it).

I'd say it's a 99.99% probability that something materially close to $550/year is the answer. It's also possible that they don't announce anything for 11 months because it doesn't apply to anyone until then.

That is kinda disturbing that they are delivering vehicles to customers without clear communication on this regard. It is understandable that range will drop but it is not cool if the car you already fully paid for, after a year, has less functionality unless you pay a protection money to GOD father. All of a sudden you find out that you really didn't buy the car, you just rented it.

Sharing diagnostic information should be an option. Car should collect it but it only should be shared/used at owner discretion. I don't care what Tesla is getting away with. I suspect most owners wouldn't care and will share anyway but it should be an option not tied to any functionality.

The good news is by the time I get mine, you guys have already hit the one year mark.

Their lack of communication on almost everything is disturbing. It's offensively bad, and erodes my faith in the company as a whole.

Geez, you make it sound like the end of the world. Even if there were no connectivity via native LTE, I can just hotspot with my phone and retain that.

If your car can not connect, your phone may not be able to either. My concern is basically I want the main functionality of the car to safely get me from A to B to be independent of the connection and I want to be able to test it and select a disconnect mode so if Alexa decided to put her nose into my business too much, I can shut her up without being stranded by side of the road or if some russian dude hacked to Rivian's network, I can keep them out of my car. We know they are good with sending out their own update. If R1Ts start to become assassins running over politicians, it would be nice to be able to take mine out of the borg. I know you are thinking that may not be such a bad thing but I am just sayin...

I think there is use for two kinda people: Positive happy go lucky smiling folks that are OK with everything and me (hair on fire, freaked out with every single news and suspicious of everyone). The rest can look at these extremes and decide where to fall in between. I am just serving my purpose to show where the limits are ;)

You have no idea how much data is being collected about you by every modern vehicle/manufacturer.

Did you get a spare tire? I believe they are required by NY law.

driving systems are independent of data connectivity. Not sure I follow what you are getting at here. I thought you were talking about infotainment items

That is the whole point. Not all of it is for my benefit. Most of it is for their development and marketing which I don't care much about. Diagnostic for trouble shooting my car can easily fit in a hard drive, I will be happy to pay for.

I know it all sounds like disjointed rants (and they really are) but it all comes down to how my smartphones and my tablets have treated me in the past. When I started my relationship with them, I was under the impression that I owned them. It turned out that it was the other way around. My kicking and screaming is a hopeless effort to have a different kinda relationship with my R1S.

I’m a little worried about the hard working noises from the bed cover motor. Sounded like it was binding or something. Engineering issue? We will see

all else is awesome .

Um.. you can link cars to multiple accounts with Tesla. My wife and I have separate accounts and our Model Y is on my account and I share it to hers. Since I'm the primary account, billing for supercharging goes to my account.

Not sure what this means. The cameras in our 2016 Model X were pretty good, but better have come along since. The rear/reverse camera in our Model Y is a potato. Honestly the one in my Ford Expedition is better and the Ford has 360 birds eye cameras and front and side cameras for various things. Only thing it lacks is the sentry/gear guard and recording functionality while driving or parked. Not sure how the legacy guys can suddenly get the camera thing almost 100% right and then not put in a means to record. Anyway...

I will reserve judgement until I can hear it myself. I'm tired of being told how amazing all these car audio systems are and in reality they're a giant "meh..."

That's cool... Doubt I'll use it, but some will.

That's great and I hope they can keep it that way. Better than Tesla's "within spec." Both of our Teslas have been great in this regard and most of them I see are just fine or really good. But there does seem to be a fair number of questionable units that get shipped out. Most automakers will address the oddball off the line and fix misalignments or other non-critical issues before shipping the car or within PDI. Tesla just delivers the cars expecting customers to note the issues and schedule repairs. Often minimizing severe panel misalignments or other things since the service centers can't keep up and don't want to deal with it.
You have to pay for supercharging? Bummer
