You may have answered this before, but I'm wondering what your ppf provider recommends as far as paint cure time before application.

To be honest I never asked them but I did read a discussion (I think here on RivianForums) a while ago, and people said that their shops generally recommended at least 2 weeks after delivery so that the paint fully cures and stop fuming.

On my todo, trying to find proper film...already did a couple of experiments but hated the result as it would make the windshield blurred.
Just to verify: you let it cure in the sun for a couple of weeks, yeah?
This is my experience having OWNED professionally installed winscreen film. My installer specified that it takes a couple of weeks to cure in, and it gets clearer as that time passes. I can confirm this.

Not saying it's perfect, but there's no warp and when the windscreen is clean, you can't tell it's there. Our installer's guarantee was that if it maintained any visible distortion after the ~2 weeks, they'd replace it for free. But they only offer a 1 year warranty all in on the film itself with the expectation it could last 'up to' 3 years. I'm due to replace mine. It's kinda groaty at this point.

Happy to say I finally found a film I can vouch for (for Windshield and Sunroof). I expect to release it next week, I already did the cut templates and just need to do the video at this point.

As for curing - the film we will be using is not like anything else on the market, and actually cures faster and with less hazing and such even during the curing phase. In my tests, the car was drivable immediately after install (alas with some distortion) and then after a day in the sun there was significant improvement. After 2-3 days in the sun you can't tell there is a film on that windshield.

Then I'll for sure wait until next week to place my order and grab all the things at once!
Definitely got my eye on an R1S full wrap for the wife's vehicle, and we're very interested in grabbing windscreen PPF for both vehicles.

THANKS! Looking forward to it!

Thanks! I will post here too when the new product is released.
The windshield should be compatible for both the R1T and R1S, but the sunroof part initially will be for the R1S only... need to get me a R1T so I can do some more stuff there too :)

Confession:
I got antsy and decided to order. It's for my wife's R1S anyway, so this is partly an anniversary gift. Wanted to grab it before you decided it was probably more valuable than you're selling it for and hiked the price ;)
I'll just order again when you release the windscreen PPF.

Already received an email from Iliya already confirming you're on it!
Looking forward to it!

As a matter of fact I am about to release the windshield film today or tomorrow. I have everything I need at this point including lots of materials (got 4 rolls), the video etc, just need a few hours to up the listing. I can still add it to the order because there will be a little wait time for the roll of PPF while 0 wait time for the winshield film so we can as well just ship separately up to you...will let you know once released so you can see the videos and photos (and pricing 😬 this material costs a small fortune for some reason) and decide.

I really really want to see the end result, pretty please :) :) :)
Absolutely!
We'll do our best to document what we can, or at least get some glamour shots.

Thanks for doing what you do! If we can make this R1S look even amateur-decent, it's an incredible deal (especially when you compare it to the $7500+ local detailers want to wrap a vehicle). Don't get me wrong, I totally get why it's worthwhile to let the pros do these things, but we don't have such deep pockets, and I haven't figured out my side hustle yet :D

I think you will get it to a shop level to be honest. That's my expectation at least, otherwise I won't even offer the product (that's why I don't offer conventional windshield tint that's installed on the inside). Of course there will be some getting used to handling PPF but even if you mess up a few panels we will re-send them (you got the DIY insurance) and the rest should be relatively smooth sails + I am available to help remotely! Super eager to see how this turns out!

That's EXACTLY why I got the DIY insurance.
my expectation, knowing myself, is that the last few panels will be relatively fluid and I'll have wished to have the "end of project" experience for the first few parts we cover ;)

Watching the install video, my only *real* concern are the mirrors, but my wife is both more dexterously talented and more patient than I, so I'm tempted to have her tackle those in totality. The biggest thing being her R1S is LA Silver, so we verily don't want the seams to be super obvious.

But that PPF color...hard to resist when she found it, I hadn't seen someone go so fast from "do we really need this" practicality-mindset to "when can we get it?!" 😆

We were just on a weekend trip and the number of things that she said 'we don't really need that right now' (which we totally would've splurged on otherwise) because she is being fiscally responsible knowing we were about to order this wrap would surprise most people that know us :D

I love that enthusiasm!!!
So, the pieces that are hard are hood, mirrors, charge port door and quarter panels. Mirrors are small but it's tricky to get these wrinkles out where the 2 pieces meet together (same with the charge port door). Notice that even by default we send 2 sets for them. I am also very open to the idea that I may need to make changes based on the experience of other people installing, so if you struggle with something and we find a solution that will get changed for the future. I recommend going in the install order on the install video by the way, unless the hood feels super intimidating.
Also I've found it useful to (although people with OCD will @#$%^& me for this) that in places where I've struggled to handle the wrinkles or was just lazy, I'd just trim with a utility knife the part that wrinkles and will patch it over with a cutout from leftovers. One example - in my install video I accidentally messed up the passenger side quarter when I opened the liftgate it tore off as I forgot to separate the PPF form the lift gate. I did some half-a**ed fix, didn't like it then just cut it and patched it after that, it's perfect now. Only attracts attention if someone points it out.
