Problem with Tesla Universal Wall Connector

Rivian is telling me they cannot help, and their chargers don't support load sharing. I guess we are stuck with the scheduling workaround. Situations like this are why average people don't buy EVs.

@Lester Green that is a disappointing and seemingly uninformed response. The EV doesn’t need to support Tesla group power sharing in order to use it; the EV only needs to be in spec with NACS/J1772 pilot signals.

I suspect whoever from Rivian told you that was referencing Tesla home power sharing (where the EV powers the home) which Rivian does not support.

Additional update from my status: I just had mobile service out to take a look. Of course, I couldn’t reproduce the issue with them here even though the issue is normally easy to reproduce AND it just happened the other day again.

Using the tech’s gen 1 R1T, I also could not induce the issue.

I don’t believe it’s fixed and yet I could not reproduce. Not sure why or what has changed.

If the two wall connectors cannot communicate with each other they will not allow over 24amps charging. In my experience you will see no error, charging will work, just slower/at a lower amperage.

My normal method to induce the error is to confirm the Rivian is pulling 48 amps by either checking the dash or the app (~10.6kw on the app) and then commence charging the second EV. Normally instigates the 7 red blinks every time. Not today!

Tried going both ways, my R1T charging first (verified at 48 amps) and theirs charging first.

Additional interesting observation: the Gen 1 R1T activates my Tesla WC much quicker than my Gen 2 R1T. Probably an order of magnitude quicker.

I'm having this same issue with my Gen2 R1S and a single Gen3 Wall Connector. 60 amp breaker. The wall connector is configured to limit at 48 amps. Both my wife's model Y and and my R1S correctly display the 48 amp limit while charging. The Tesla charges without fail. The R1S faults the wall connector after 30 minutes. Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold.

I just finished playing around with the Tesla One app (the locally hosted web interface has been phased out). The wall connector has the latest firmware. This appears to be a Rivian problem, not a Tesla one.

Yes. But just taking it down to 46 amps isn't always enough. So I reduce it to 42.
