Hola,

One of my wheels and the tire, when moved to any location in my T is making a rubbing sound. Coincidentally that wheel was in the same location where an air strut was replaced.

The repair was done at a certified collision center.

An inspection of the wheel has currently not resulted in the cause. The repair shop team is trying to figure out the cause, as I write this and I sit waiting.

For my own knowledge. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue and had it resolved?

again, the sound follows one wheel/tire combo. The tire was taken off and some “cleaning” done to it, and an initial inspection. but the issue remains.

thx!

My first guess is that the broken strut caused the tire to wear unevenly or develop a flat spot And that is causing vibrations that you are mistaking for rubbing.

What was the reason for replacing the strut - known damage or just random failure?

Expanding on @sub's comment, it's rare but a tire can have an internal structural failure such as belts separating which will result in noise - factory defect or damaged while driving, such as a hard impact. If the strut was replaced due to road/impact damage, the tire could also have hidden impact damage...

My started to rub, then got worse and worse. Put a service center request so they can get on this sooner rather than later.

Put some chalk on the inside of the tire and drive it around. Missing chalk will go somewhere visible.

I had a rubbing sound and an excessive tire wear at 100K. Service center tracked it to a failed hub and replaced it. Not free.

The strut was replaced after a random failure. The location was not moving up or down. I had not ran over or into a deep hole and do not do any off roading.

As for a current update. The issue was isolated to the tire, not the wheel. But, yes this is the tire that was in the same location as the strut.

Now the sound is not as loud when going under 20 mph or so. Originally the sound was heard, loud even going 5 mph. The only difference was a balancing.

The tire shop could not find any issues with the tire, like a bubble or some odd wear and indicated the car is aligned properly.

I concur with the alignment being fine. I still think there’s a problem with the tire, though I was told it is safe to drive with it.

The sound is more of a sticking noise, like that one tire is gripping more than the other tires. If that makes any sense.

Tomorrow I am going to have someone else drive, so I can record the sound.

Front or rear? $400 hub isn't too bad, but the front looks like a real pain. Rear looks easier, but both require axle press to push half shaft off the knuckle (I think I said that right...)

Did your truck step in gum?
