I found that on steep hills, regen braking is not strong enough to stop my truck. I always hover the break on a hill. Also, if it's cold out, regen breaking will be reduced.

And can I add to your comment that regeneration braking is not specifically designed to be your braking system. It is designed to use the cars momentum to generate electricity for the batteries and the braking or slowing of the vehicle is a byproduct of this.

No one should be relying on regeneration for braking.

To me… Unless softwar-to-hardware glitch or state of battery reducing regen (as designed), the tale tells a story that just can’t happen. Maybe a misinterpretation of what actually happened? Flag/log it if it happens again and engage Support.
I'll ask her to get a log next time it happens.

Kozak and joem are spot-on. If speed or momentum is high enough, regen alone may not be enough to slow or come to a stop. The large brakes aren’t there for appearances.

She says slight incline. I'll have to take it out myself and test out all the variables.
Side note, I have to give you credit for monitoring the thread you created. Far too often someone will jump into the forum, pose a question, and never follow up to some of the troubleshooting questions the community asks in order to help narrow down the OP's issue.

Kudos, and Welcome.

When you check it out yourself, on the driver display you can see the energy output and regen input the yellow bar is the energy output and the green bar is the regen. Make sure the bar is green, that means regen.

As others have said it’s most likely because of the hill. Regen is added resistance to generate electricity but is finite in capacity. These are heavy vehicles and on a hill the force of gravity is higher than the regeneration so it won’t completely slow the vehicle. It might even be the fact that the Rivian regen is so strong that is the reason you’re having this confusion.

For example, my wife’s BMW has much less regeneration so there’s no confusion on its limits but on my Rivian I have to use the friction brake a couple times a month.

I can say I **think** I’ve had this happen once or twice.

I say think because I can’t really recreate it. And I can’t even say what led up to it.

I have had this happen once or twice when I was half a block from my house, taking the first trip of the day. Don’t know why it occurred. After the first stop, all was back to normal. I have also had it happen after charging to 100% or close to it. If the HVB is too hot or too full, regen will be reduced.

In these situations one would have had visual indication in the driver display that regen is reduced.
