Thinking of picking up the Rivian awning, but our garage door is on the smaller side.

Some videos show the awning plus crossbars add about 10 inches in height to an R1S.

So I wonder if anyone tried this using the side mount from Kammok.

Would love to see your awning mounted.

Here are three pictures from this past week. I didn’t take these thinking I would be sharing them here, so they’re not the best for showing off the awning, but at least you get a sense of what it looks like on my truck.

I just measured and I would call it closer to 11” in additional height.

I really like the awning and I give it very positive reviews. I added a couple of poles from Kammok to stabilize it when it’s windy, but I don’t use them very often because it’s pretty solid on its own.

It’s a great product. Pricey, but nice.

Stay adventurous!

You were looking for pictures of the side mounting! My bad. Enjoy the picture nonetheless. And still stay adventurous!

Side mount kit is made for standard kammok awning, it has t-slot spacing of 40mm while the rivian x kammok is 25mm as confirmed by kammok.

TLDR: Won’t fit.

This looks great, I may just pull the trigger, and do the mounting and unmounting when needed.

That’s a bummer, would have been much easier to leave installed if the side mount kit worked.

A quick word of caution on this, putting it on and taking it off is kind of a pain in the ass. The awning itself is pretty heavy and measuring the distance for the brackets so they attach properly to the awning can be a chore as well.

Be sure to watch some videos and read the instructions for installation before you do anything. It’s not terrible, but it is a bit of a pain and I wouldn’t want to do it on the regular.

Good luck, I really like the awning, so I hope it works for you.

I second the warning on continually mounting and dismounting the awning. It really is a two person job, and on top if that you’ll be working with bolts with thread locker on them so you’ll need to reapply when mounting. I was swearing up and down the first time I mounted it.

Attached is with it deployed on the beach.

I make sure the car is in 'Lowest" transmission height when I enter the garage. I just leave it on the car.

I was able to get one with reward points and am planning to install this weekend. This sounds like loads of fun.

Thanks for the warning. I’ll have some beer nearby for both coping during and celebrating when done.

Kammok didn’t say they will make one for Rivian? That is not encouraging for those considering to purchase Kammok.l IF no product support.

From Kammok:

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in the Crosswing Side Mount Kit. I know how important it is to make sure everything works together before adding new gear to your setup.

At the moment, the Crosswing Side Mount Kit isn’t directly compatible with the Rivian x Kammok Awning, since the T-slot patterns are different on the back of each. We do plan on offering adapter options in the future, but they aren’t available just yet.

If you enjoy tackling DIY projects, some customers have modified the existing bracket by adjusting the hole placement, which means some drilling or cutting will be needed. Just a quick note - any exposed metal after these adjustments could be prone to rust over time.

If you’d like additional details or want to see example photos of this kind of setup, just let me know. I’m happy to answer any questions or walk you through the process!

I'm working on an adapter plate. Essentially you bolt this onto the awning with new M8 bolts, then you can use the supplied Kammok side mount bolts to mount onto the side mount. With that said, these are based off measurements from Kammok so no test fits or testing at all have been done.

I also have Referral credit that I've been meaning to use on this awning but have yet to hit order.

I don't have a way to produce these in mass. I can get them made in 304 Stainless with holes drilled, but i would still need to tap the threads and counter-bore for the M8 bolt head. Figuring out how to counter-bore 304 stainless at home right now. My intern has access to a CNC machine so I might make him counter-bore for me whenever i unbench this effort and actually order the

Were you able to make these in 304 stainless?
Another idea might be to have them 3D printed to test-fit clearances.
It would be so nice to get the awning down in-line with the top of the crossbars.
