Teslas do this too. They wake up charge for 5 min and sleep for a few hours. The Autel units have good resolution but eventually lump the minutes into the graph.

Mine ended up being my A2Z extension cord. When plugged straight into the unit never have any issues. Hope yours gets worked out.My R1T is doing something very similar to this. I started charging at 25% and it has stopped twice mid charge. The last time it stopped I went out to the truck and verified the app was correct - the charge light on the truck was off. I opened the driver door and the truck immediately started charging again.

Before searching here I asked my friend Grok if he knew anything about this phenomenon.

This is a frustratingly common issue with Rivian vehicles (both R1T and R1S, especially Gen 2 models), where the truck enters sleep mode prematurely during a Level 2 AC charging session, pausing the charge until it's manually woken. Based on widespread owner reports, here's what's likely happening and how to address it:
Why It's Happening
- Software Bug in Sleep Logic: Recent over-the-air (OTA) updates (particularly around mid-2025, like versions post-2025.34) have introduced a glitch where the vehicle doesn't stay "awake" long enough during charging. It starts charging normally after plugging in, but after 5–60 minutes, it goes into deep sleep mode to conserve energy (a feature meant to reduce "vampire drain"). This breaks the communication handshake with the charger, halting power flow. When you open the driver door (or use the app/key fob), it wakes up, re-establishes the connection, and charging resumes without needing to unplug/replug. This isn't tied to low battery, overheating, or hardware faults—it's purely a software hiccup affecting how the truck manages idle states while plugged in.

I guess this is just something we will need to live with until Rivian releases an update that fixes it?

Ok, so something seems to be going on. Im reaching out to them this week. I assumed just a warranty needs, bit might be communication issue somehow.
I am using a A2Z extension cord.
I just went out to the garage and disconnected and reconnected the extension cord. The charging was paused again when I did that and after reconnecting the charging started again. I suspect there is some resistance in connector that is causing either the truck to suspend the charge, or the EVSE to suspend the charge. Do you happen to be using a Emporia EVSE?Ok, so something seems to be going on. Im reaching out to them this week. I assumed just a warranty needs, bit might be communication issue somehow.
No, Rivian's charger. Good info that happening with different units.I just went out to the garage and disconnected and reconnected the extension cord. If this keeps happening, I am going to clean the pins on the connector that plugs into the EVSE plug. I bet that fixes it. (I am betting $2.74.)
I have yet to remove the extension cable to see if that is the cause. I need another long charge session to test that. The charge finished last night but it still stopped and started all night. So my little disconnect/reconnect "fix" didn't do anything. No, Rivian's charger. Good info that happening with different units.
@A2ZEV please see issue that has started to begin in recent weeks.
I don't think it is a A2Z issue. No, Rivian's charger. Good info that happening with different units.

My extension cord worked perfectly fine for more than six months. Its definitely the cord. As we both have same issue. Never have any issues charging direct from the charger. So far Tesla with adapter works fine, Mach e is about 60 40, Rivians stop but then restart after about 30 minutes and go on off, Audi just stops after 15 minutes and never restarts. Im going to call in on Wednesday and get their perspective since they never chimed in on the thread.
