Rivian has decided I could buy one! Only $50k more than my preorder from 4 years ago.
I don't know wether to laugh or cry.
Going to see if R3X is vapourware or not instead

Would they have honored your early pricing if you had not canceled? Seems like they should since it wasn't your fault the wait was so long.

You're right to cancel and further hold off, and they were right to not send you a vehicle originally.
I'm from Manitoba, so I feel you. I also would not have moved forward with ownership without nearby service Centre.
Very high likelihood things would not have gone well for you. I know you know this already - just sympathizing.

They had offered a "voucher" at some point to offset the price increase, albeit not entirely. I don't think they would have honoured my pricing, as my configuration ceased to exist for a while - quad motor max pack, power tonneau, etc.

Not having a nearby service centre would be less of an issue with mobile service in place. Besides, I'm used to German cars, or worse, English ones. Car broken for a month isn't that scary anymore.

I recall someone from PEI on these forums with a preorder being very excited about it. Rivian will never, ever have a service centre in that province.
In the early days, Rivian talked up mobile service and said they'd come to you, blah blah blah. Seemed plausible, because Tesla did it.
Of course, that never happened.

By way of example, Tesla had no service centre here until a couple of years ago - at first they would send someone out every few months who would spend a few weeks working on every car with an issue from here NW Ontario. Then they finally got a permanent mobile tech here. After that, they rented a bay at the only Tesla authorized body shop - no more mobile service. Finally they opened a service centre.

Anyway I think it's funny they're reaching out now. I did reply and tell them i'd be interested in a quad at the same price as my original pre-order configuration. No reply for some reason....

I'm still hoping it works out for you at some point!
My wife remains angry with rivian for what we were going to get turning into vapourware.
Instead of an R1t, we ended up with a parallel hybrid, that is...two parallel cars.
A 2016 E63 wagon, and a VW egolf. The former carries almost anything as quickly as possible and the latter is the best city car i've ever had.

2023 Rivian R1T - Gen1 Quad
I fully understand canceling your pre-order and concerns about the lack of a service center in Manitoba. However, that said, I loved the R1T so much, that I took my chances. I am a proud R1T owner in Manitoba. I purchased my new 2023 R1T Quad Gen1 in spring 2025. I was able to use my voucher because I was an early reservation holder. What I paid for this bran new EV truck was definitely reasonable. Actually, ended up being significantly less than what was originally estimated when I placed my reservation deposit 4 years ago.

I have absolutely no regrets and have had no issues with the truck whatsoever, granted I have only owned it for 6 months so far. Best vehicle I have ever owned! And Rivian does indeed do mobile servicing if needed. I have not needed it, but I have spoken with another Rivian owner in Manitoba, and they had personally had Rivian mobile service come to do some minor repairs to his R1S.

I lucked out, and got the very last new Gen1 R1T in the country. The prices of new Gen2 R1s are way too high, and I would never have been able to own a new R1T at these prices. So I hear you and fully understand. The R2 and R3 do also look super interesting. But for me, it has to be a pickup truck, so those are not options that I would consider.

Good luck. I am told that a Winnipeg Service Center is in the works. But they need more Rivian owners in the province in order for it to make financial sense.

Take care,

Sorry to hear :(

I borrowed a friends address in order to have the system let me order a vehicle back in fall of 2023 after giving up on the Quad/Max combo - I'm guessing if I hadn't of done that, I wouldn't have had access to order until sometime this year myself (I'm 8 hours in between both Vancouver and Calgary).

I love the truck, but it sure is a PITA whenever I need service. I've taken it to Vancouver once (where it stayed for a few weeks to get diagnosed/fixed) and to Calgary (one week this time). Both times they gave me a loaner and I drove home in between. They've generally been good about it and try to accommodate.

If you really want one, I'd seriously consider a gently used Gen 1. You'd probably get it at around or even a bit below voucher pricing. I'm just under 95,000 km and it still feels new! Even has the same range at 100% as when it was new!

I would get a gen1 if it had the same features as my original preorder.
We were out when the price of our quad motor max pack configuration went from $140k or so to about $190k, dropping some of the "killer app" features like power tonneau, and then became nonexistent for a whle.

I drove one in 2021 at the first mile event in Sonoma.
Came away very impressed. I have no doubts about the quality and suitability of the vehicle.
Again, not having a service centre was never a concern, having dealt with that with Tesla - as you say, mobile service can be effective.

Currently we'll wait and see if the R3X is vapourware or not.

I could have used a placeholder address too, but quad max(needed for big winter distances most of all) is what we were sold on on and that became unavailable until basically now, with an unpalatable pricetag. Plus my wife is still pissed the camp kitchen disappeared, haha. Also still annoyed that they clearly took orders from anyone anywhere to pad their book for IPO time. So rivian is a hard sell!

I remember very well the discussions around Large vs Max Pack, and the deep dives by various forum members trying to figure out what the Max Pack would actually have for capacity once it became clear they weren't going to deliver on the 180 kWh original config. For myself, once it became clear that they weren't even going to deliver the possible config of 11 modules (up from the current 9), which would have been ~160 kWh, I did a bit of mathing on types of trips I was planning to do and realised the actual "Max" pack they delivered of 142 kWh (same modules, denser cells) vs the Large pack of 131 kWh just didn't make enough of a difference for me to care, so I "folded" and bought a Quad/Large. I know charging infrastructure is a bit better here in BC then it is in MB, but I have done towing trips through some pretty sparse places (AB, north AZ, SE Utah) and have managed fine with the Large pack.

My decision also became more clear when I evaluated the potential cost over 10 years and realised it would be roughly the same as waiting for a used truck down the line (or a new R2T if they ever made it). I've got a long-winded blog post here if you are curious what all went into our decision: https://kootenayevfamily.ca/why-an-ev-truck-why-the-r1t/

Best of luck!
