Many of us would very much appreciate eyes on the R2 inventory at Normal. Since in the year it's supposed to occur, Rivian seems tight-lipped on a specific release date
My money is on a few to employees in May / June, and first release to the general public on June 42nd.

I'll offer a counter argument on resale values.

The recent market trends have shown most EV customers value affordability and range. Not autonomy (see 15% up-take on Telsa "FSD"). If the Gen 3 R2 costs thousands more because of the autonomy features (likely, IMO) + subscription fees. The Gen 2 R2 will be desirable on the used market because it gives those customers what they want, a great EV at an affordable price without unnecessary features.
Let them try the current FSD once and they'll change their mind. I just drove a new Model Y with FSD and my mind was blown. Granted I'm in a Gen 1 but I don't see Rivian catching up to Tesla anytime soon. They just don't have the deep bench of talent at this point and may never get there.

Dude, Rivian just started their FSD journey. It's not talent, its time.

So true. Tesla’s system has been in development for 12 years and still isn’t there.
Also, let’s not forget that this is ONLY HW4 Tesla vehicles. The hundreds of thousands of HW3 vehicles are left in the dust.

Also, Tesla has had all the time in the world for something they promised 15 yrs ago. And I still wouldn't trust it

Yep, it has been 10 years (as of 3 days ago) since Tesla said that vehicles would be able to drive from New York to Los Angeles with no human in the vehicle, including recharging stops, by the end of 2018. https://www.forbes.com/sites/brooke...rs-you-can-summon-car-from-across-the-country

(And more than 10 years since they demoed their prototype "automatic charging Doctor Octopus arm": )

10,000 miles with no human intervention is pretty damn close...

Not really close at all. The projection was you could summon the car from across the country.

I can't even imagine why that would even be something someone would want to begin with. But Elon is an egomaniac, so maybe it made sense in his mind. Empty cars traveling cross country seems like a waste of efficiency.

On a HW4 vehicle. In 2016, Elon said this would be possible with *vehicles shipping at that moment* (including mine.) Within two years time. That deadline is now even more of a broken promise than the Roadster 2.0.
