This is an excerpt from an editorial by some generic commentator: Rivian’s rapid loss of thousands of would‑be customers did not come from a botched product launch or a viral quality scandal. It came from a policy cliff. When a key federal tax incentive vanished, a fragile demand story around premium electric trucks and SUVs was suddenly exposed, and the company’s delivery numbers show just how quickly that shock rippled through its order book.

As a sizable sample of Rivian buyers/owners, and EV buyers in general on this forum, does the end of the tax incentive spell the end of EV's? This is my experience: my Rivian didn't qualify because it wasn't "new". Previously I had a Volt and I got about half of the incentive because I just didn't make enough money. It seems like with the cancellation of the Ford Lightning and RAM electric, etc, the EV doom predictors are even more vocal. It's part of the anti-EV agenda. I even saw an article that compared the disappearance of electric vehicles when ICE vehicles became popular in the early 1900's to the current day, and predicted that EV's are going to go away again. Are EV's going to disappear? I've had three EV's (Volts count as EV's depending on how you drive) and I bought them because I like them.
My next vehicle will be another EV. Likely another Rivian. I loved working on ICE vehicles my whole life. I understand the workings of them better than most. It's simply an outdated, Rube Goldberg machine at this point. It makes no sense. EV tech, specifically battery range, will continue to improve. The reasons to stick with ICE are dwindling. I still have my ICE motorcycles. Love the sound of ICE engines. Just not worth the mess and repairs for a daily driver.

*under the right set of circumstances.

The reasons to stick with ICE are huge when faced with the fairly severe limitations of an EV in more isolated areas.

Even the last charging desert in Ely NV is now good to go.

I believe Fairbanks is covered but a long way to Dead Horse for an EV.

Where else is over 250+ miles without charging?

What severe limitations? EVs are doable by 90%+ of the population.
All the usual. Range, when charging stations are available but limited in location, number or speed. Lack of ability to charge if you don’t bring a generator, where charging stations aren’t available. Limited ability to spend time remote if there are no nearby charge stations to top off at. Temperature extremes, exacerbated by limited charging availability (the average high temp over the last month was -22°F). You’re not wrong that most of the US population is pretty well able to manage an EV in current form and infrastructure but there’s still areas isn’t feasible.

A normal drive to go fish, hunt or just hike is easily over 150 miles one way up here and typically done while towing a trailer with ATVs, SxSs, boats, etc.

lol, so true. It started with EGR & PCV valves back in the day. Now we have catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, particulate filters, Diesel Exhaust Fluid, charcoal cannisters, variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation (V8 to V4), fuel maps, seasonal fuel blends, E85, ..................
