That being said, don't almost all auto manufacturers announce a base price for a vehicle, but the first ones off the line are higher trim (and therefore higher profit margin)?
Yes. I'd be surprised if the 45K dollar one is going to be first.

It's not. A mid-range well equipped trim is going to be first, what they think is going to be a popular configuration...RJ said something to that effect a couple of months ago. If I had to guess...something around $50k-$54k.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
If we learn anything from R1, get the good colors while you can. Otherwise you’re waiting for a special edition Miami car
I guess there are always wraps, but the decent ones are often more expensive than factory paint jobs, don’t last forever, and are sometimes hard to remove.

In Rivian’s defense they discontinued Compass Yellow (boo), but then added colors like California Dune (limited time) and Borealis to the R1 line; Cloud White and that darker silver color (name?) to the R2 line; and Laguna Blue, Sunset Orange, and Permafrost to the R3 line.

I have always thought the first ones delivered would be dual motor in the 55-62 range. I budgeted 70k out the door, put it in a CD that matures in May 2026 when I made my reservation. Looks like my timing is lining up pretty well, time will tell.

$45K will be single motor with smallest battery. My suspicion is that launch R2 will be closer to $60K:
  • Large Pack: ~$7K
  • Dual Motor: ~$5K

    ~$57K

Exactly what I was about to say. And past launch, that exact battery and motor config with LiDAR will likely be at or near the $60k mark. Pay-to-play is still name of the game.

That helps the profit margin since the larger battery is likely 20-30kW larger and that would be $2-3k in cost and I have seen a second motor priced around $1.5-2k for other manufacturers.

And profit is what it is all about.

Agree. They will have learnt a loads from the R1 release and will be keen not to make the same mistakes, or at least over promise and then under-deliver. They're established now versus back in 2022. Only downside risk to going too soon and then having to roll back.

Measure twice, cut once.
I am thinking the configurator could be available to reservation holders only until the list is cycled through.

Route 66, guessing 66 days until release
Sounds good. The R2 was revealed 2 years ago in March, so that tracks. I’d love to be on that road trip.

What’s the point of that? Someone will take screenshots and share. So why not let potential customers play around with it?
