3 1/2 years in on a Gen 1 R1T, with just under 50,000 miles. Best car I've owned by a mile. Original 12V, Tonneau still works. I had a leaky strut on the hood that was replaced by an awesome mobile tech in my driveway. Unlocks when I walk up, locks when I walk away. Software is super intuitive and just works. Range is pretty accurate (particularly compared to my wife's Tesla) and when it's not, you'll know why (either it's below 0 degrees out or you're driving over 75 mph).

Agree with others - you'll see a lot of complaints documented online cause that's just how the internet works. Can't say you won't have any issues, but there are a lot of us out here who've had a good experience.

Rivians are not perfect vehicles, but there's nothing on the road like them, and I freaking love mine, and I have the less perfect Gen1 R1T. My personal point of view is that ANY premium vehicle with many more bells and whistles (BMW, Audi, Tesla, etc.) is going to see more maintenance issues, so no premium is going to be at the Corolla or Civic level of maintenance. I too watched several videos of "Rivians Gone Bad", but I took the risk, and after talking to many Rivian owners in person, not a single one has not "loved" their vehicle. You may find this video helpful, given you're taking the lease route. I took the used Gen 1 path, partly due to my concerns and that was the perfect entry path for me, intsead of leasing a Gen2 dual standard that was my initial preference.

2025 R1T dual large
Thx. Issues with the card or phone being recognized, 12v, the car suddenly stopping, tonneau cover, door molding quality, software issues, warnings going off, range inaccurate, air suspension issues.
My R1T is Gen 2, 9 months old, and 9,000 miles.
  • Phone and card - no issues, but there is a few second delay at times as truck wakes up
  • 12v - no issues
  • Car suddenly stopping - has never happened
  • Tonneau cover - Newest version, no issues
  • Door Molding quality - No issues
  • Warnings going off - None have occurred
  • Range inaccurate - No issues. Its surprisingly accurate for me when you consider temperature and wind variations it factors in. As good as my Tesla model Y. Generally, within 2% +-
  • Air Suspension issues - none
No significant issues. However, software is still maturing.

Hi everyone I am about to lease a R1T 2026 dual motor max. This is my first EV. Ive been doing research but have found a lot of negative reviews that seem more related to the older models. I am curious if things seem to been improving for those that have done updates on their older models or have newer models with less issues. What are your thoughts? Sorry if this belongs in a different thread.
Without asking more questions - yes. Very much improved since Gen 1! (Corrected).

I'm driving my 3rd R1 series (1 truck, 2 SUV's) Never had any serious problems. I did have to do a hard reset once. The vehicles are pretty incredible. I believe some early adopters had unrealistic expectations. The key card does have to be placed where the picture on the card specifies for it to work.

You're going to find a lot of positive comments like mine. No major issues in 2 years. It's a great car and my first EV. You will also find negative comments because this is a board. Search for the guy with 100k miles on his Rivian. That will give you a good feel. All the best.

Love both of ours. No major issues. Have a very early vin Launch Edition R1S and a new Tri Max R1T. Amazing to drive, nothing compares to the utility and drive quality, will be sticking with Rivian for the long haul. Was also not an early adopter or investor or anything, just took a risk and have no regrets.

I am two years in on a 2024 R1S and still love it, No issues, the vehicle keeps getting better with software updates. I love it so much I am about to take delivery on a new R1S, and really can't go back to an ICE vehicle because of the many unseen until owned benefits of an EV. I've tried out the Macan and Cayenne EVs, Volvo EVs, Kia EVs, Lucid, and have looked at info on others, and keep coming to the conclusion the Rivian still has the best product for my use and values today. While not perfect, it's very close, and overall very good. I also have friends who own Rivians that also love it, as well as friends that own other EVs and nice vehicles and all are really impressed when they are in my R1S. I think you'll be happier than you expect in a Rivian.

Same here. ‘25 Gen 2 Tri. Only issue was washer coolant leak on front camera in first month. Repaired promptly at Van Nuys SC - brought it back in after waiting a week for the parts.

Had a home visit for 7.5k tire rotation. Smooth.

I self wash at home, so I see all the gaskets and paint - no issues.

Coming up to 10k miles, all smiles here.

2022 R1T at 99,600 miles -

Issues with the card or phone being recognized, Not a big deal. maybe when its raining

12v, Just got it replaced, After 90K I think its reasonable.

the car suddenly stopping, Never happened to me.

tonneau cover, An issue with the first generation. mine is out of alignment but I can live with it. No upgrade was offered to me.

door molding quality, Never had an issue Yet, many plastic moldings are somewhat flimzy.

software issues, Never had an issue that was significant to the vehicle operation.

warnings going off, Had some sensors going out at the beginning. they where replaced by Rivian and no additional issues.

range inaccurate, Really depends on your speed. your range is being determined by overall efficiency. range SIGNIFICANTLY drops as your speed increases so you should expect lower range when driving on the freeway at high speed

air suspension issues. Blew up one air suspension but that was because of heavy towing.... Otherwise ALL GOOD

If you get one USE IT.

Hi Noah was it because heavy towing outside of the max towing capacity ? I have a travel trailer that falls under the 11k max capacity and the rest of the numbers check out.

My air suspension relief valve failed after offloading a dump trailer that was not loaded correctly and had too much weight in the front of the trailer.
If you plan on towing, you should get a wiegt safe ball that indicates the weight on your tongue.
You should take into consideration that your efficiency will drop to about 1 mil/kwh all depending on your trailer air efficiency
