State law? You can't be on the roads without insurance and since you'll be driving immediately after delivery...
I have State Farm. They have always told me that I have a weeks grace period to let them know about a new purchase.

I don't know the law on this but I don't understand why a seller would care if I have insurance given once I take posession, it's not their problem anymore.

In VA, dealers act as an agent for the DMV and register the truck on your behalf. When you register a vehicle, the state requires proof of insurance. This is likely the same in IL.

All dealers do it, not just Rivian. Because it is required by the state in order to give you a license plate.

Fair enough. Sounds like this has been a thing for a while but traditional dealers made it invisible for most buyers.

Rivian likes to take care of all the paperwork before you arrive. Traditional dealers do it while you are sitting there, which is a huge PIA IMO. I hate wasting time inside a dealership. But that is when they ask for your proof of insurance.

Rivian does it before you take delivery so all you have to do is come and pick up the truck. Personally, I think it is a MUCH better experience.

100%. Dealers still ask for it, but they do it while you're sitting there waiting. Then you get to go to the finance manager's office, where they try to sell you everything under the sun to pad the purchase amount. Rivian does all the paperwork before you get there. You sign a couple things, and in 10 min you're in your new Rivian and can be on your way.

Rivian's way is much better, considering it took 4 hours to buy my wife's BMW when we had an appointment, and it was a cash sale.

I did a cash sale for my wife's XT5 and wired them the money so all I had to do was verify the vehicle in person, get the keys and drive home. I spent 3 hours there while they made me wait for the finance manager so he could try to sell me stuff I already declined.

To say I was pissed off is an understatement. Yet I was still polite with them because they are under pressure from the owners to sell that crap, and I didn't want to take it out on them, just trying to do their jobs and earn a living. Man, it sucked.

It took me an hour max when I picked up my Rivian, and most of that was just them making sure the truck was configured the way I wanted it and making sure all my questions were answered. Great experience.

Awesome, enjoy! Somewhere in here theres a thread with a good delivery checklist, definitely suggest having a look at that and test out everything.

Make sure you research your state’s laws and fees for titling and registration. In my case in Florida, I transfered a license plate which should have resulted in a savings of over $200. However, Rivian insisted on charging as if it was a new plate, but they did not disclose that and people I could reach were clueless. I think this is actually because the Rivian agents were out of state and did not know Florida. I had to push the issue, and it was not easy. I think shortly after, Rivian started using Service Center staff, vice national sales agents for sales. Eventually, Rivian reps tried to say it was in case the plate transfer failed. My county office said that is ridiculous since it is all online with immediate results. Rivian agreed to refund the money AFTER the sale, which I was not happy or confidant of. I had to sign off on the higher fees in the contract to take delivery. I did get a refund, although not exact to what I thought. But had I not pressed, I am sure Rivian would not have offered to refund anything. I DID NOT like the Rivian sales process.
