- Two-way tailgate (see: Honda Ridgeline).
- Openable/closeable rear window (see: practically all other trucks)
- USB playback. BT is a step backward. I understand Apple OS doesn't play well with others, but this boomer 2001 tech circumvents that issue.
- Tactile feedback (real buttons, haptic, whatever) for common-use items (defrost, HVAC, audio input selection, etc). Better yet, make that feature user-customizable since "common-use" could be subjective.
- Shrink the overall dimensions (L, W, H) by 6".

Ditto to a lot of these.

But also, install bigger & better dampened fans for the heat exchangers.
So fucking loud and vibrates like a son of bitch.

Also, we don't need a Gen 3 for an odometer that's live in the driver's screen. That's purely software.

My wishlist for Gen3:

  • 800V
  • Bigger pack (180 kW)
  • Faster charging curve
  • Gen 1 handles
  • Upgradeable Compute Units
  • Upgradeable/modular H/W components (gen 3 should aim to be upgradable to a gen 4 by X%)
  • Lockers
  • Rear steering
  • Better horns
  • Better fans
  • Power plugs in the frunk and front of the vehicle
  • Glove box - lockable
  • Improve plastic trims peices on the tailgate that don't catch when sliding things out
  • Gear guard cable that triggers an alarm when cut
  • Alarm that actually triggers (had someone attempt to break in my driver's window, alarm didn't go off at all)
  • No more vampire drain
  • A variant for a longer wheel base so I can have a true crew cab experience with a completely flat floor (seat fold up and back, not up and forward) for my doggos
  • 1200 HP, quad motor with 2-speed gear train, with 160 mph top speed in sport mode
    • Yeah yah I can dream

Personally, I really do not want rear steering. We don't need another complicating drivetrain feature to add to cost and potential issues, especially for something that not going to be used or needed by most drivers in most situations.

U-Turns, city driving, and parallel parking are common enough for my use.
R1's are their flagship model.

FWIW the gen 2 doesn’t have a stupid horn.
Niice!
For other gen1 owners to hear:

Air springs and hydraulics that are reliable enough to support a 7k lb auto.
Half shafts that are reliable/durable enough to last 10yrs.
Four wheel steering (they hired someone for it).
Solid state batteries or higher density batteries (assuming gen3 won't come out until late 2028-2029 so they might exist by then).
For those that don't know, solid state batteries use a combination of polymeric electrolytes and liquid electrolyte. They are safer, because there is less nasty liquid. The plates (electrodes) can be spaced closer to each other, to reduce the physical size of the stack; he gravimetric density (weight) does not change much. Since the solid state batteries that are becoming available are small, I don't know what the effect on the thermal management system will be.
Every so often, a manufacturer introduces four wheel steering. The idea has been around for a long time. Remember the tiller driver on ladder fire trucks? It has never caught on. No one seems to agree how 4-wheel steering should behave. E.g. crablike for parking at low speed, crablike for high speed on the highway, opposite direction to reduce turn radius at low speed, etc. What about a combination with automatic transition based on steering input, speed, forward vs reverse, or AI guess? Perhaps Rivian can get it right. Whatever the solution, this forum will be full of complaints.

What do you mean people don't seem to agree? 4 wheel steering helps stability at higher speeds with the wheels in-phase (same direction). Counter-phase (different direction) steering helps at low speed to shorten the turning radius and make the car feel smaller. Basically every 4 wheel steering system has implemented this philosophy, though in different ways. It's not a choice for in-phase or counter-phase.

People who complain about 4 wheel steering just don't like the added complexity (I get it), because they're trying to build a drift car, or because they drive a Mercedes and they have to pay a subscription to get the most out of it. The actual technology is otherwise pretty much objectionably great at making the vehicle both more stable and maneuverable.

A bloody proper way to do 3 kids in car seats!

And not captains seats as a good bench is valuable. The problem is the third row access is so bad when there are car seats installed in the middle row and even when they aren't it's too heavy and it doesn't fold back properly!

It needs car seat tilt or a better access and restore mechanism. A wider middle 2nd row seat would also be nice.

Gonna repeat some others but I'll throw in my wish list as well:
  • LiDAR, a next-generation RAP chip, the full suite of autonomy capabilities
  • Return of Gen 1 frunk design
  • NACS charger
  • Next-generation in-house motor, in quad configuration of course
  • Some integrated running boards or retracting steps
  • Two glove boxes
  • Qi2 / MagSafe compatible wireless chargers
  • V2H/V2X capabilities, and a stronger on-onboard inverter for the outlets
  • 12V battery not under the passenger seat. Or rather, just easier DIY maintenance
  • 120Hz HDR infotainment display
  • More cup holders, especially for 2nd row passengers
  • Airplane style tray for 2nd row passengers
  • Speakers in the headrest that play notification noises so it doesn't disrupt music
  • Amber turn signals separate from the brake lights
  • Return of Forest Edge interior, Slate Sky for every configuration, maybe the unreleased Lunar Rock
  • The new scroll wheels on the steering wheel
  • Even better cameras
  • Stronger windshield glass
  • Heat pump
  • Hidden leg rest on the passenger seat (like NIO's "Queen Seat")
  • More comfortable 3rd row
  • Hidden rear glass wiper
  • Grab handles for ingress/egress
  • Improved range/efficiency
  • Dimmable passenger glass
  • A small fridge
  • Adaptive High beam assist
There's lot of luxury features from Chinese EVs that would be cool to copy too.
