Reliability plain and simple. Loved my R1T when it was running but had it 6.5 months and it was in the shop over 3 of those. If the R2 proves to be more reliable then I may jump back in but I will wait for the initial units are driven a bit to see if they hold up.

Nothing.

Vaguest of possibilities if an R3T gets released of replacing the R1T with it a few years down the line. (Yes, R3T. Hyundai Santa Cruz / Subaru Baja size. As long as it can tow 5000 lb, and can tow a 3500 lb teardrop at least 120 miles between charge stops.)

No chance of trading the R1S. Although I would trade DW's CX5 in a heartbeat

I love the R1T but per your specs, is a Silverado EV is too big? I had one as a loaner and it drove nice and smooth. Tons of inside room.
I test drove the Silverado RST & LT, along with the Ford Lightning before I settled on the Rivian. One issue I had was that where I work we have a parking ramp that is pretty tight for a mid-sized truck, and the RST would be a handful in there. I also use my truck as my daily driver, so parking and ease of use in traffic is desirable. I know folks that do drive full-sized trucks for daily use, but I prefer a mid-sized one.

Right now no intention of replacing my R1S with a R2. However my wife would be interested in looking at it to replace her I4. Might wait for the R3 but not 100% sure yet. It looks great and fits her needs well.

The biggest problem for me is that I love my R1T and it suits my current needs. I may have to skip out on my day 1 R2 reservation. That said, I’m less than 1k miles from being out of warranty and am a little anxious about that. Regardless, I probably wouldn’t consider the switch until a 3 motor R2 variant is released…

If I didnt have 5 EV's I would add to the fleet lol. Won't replace my R1's. Could see it replacing M3 someday if RfSD is as good eventually

Will never happen
I wouldn't say never but Rivian would probably want/need to have an offering that starts in the mid 30's price range versus Slate and Maverick to hit volume sales in that lifestyle market that seems to be quite price sensitive.

Maverick sold ~155k units in 2025 so the market size makes sense to target with the right product, although last I read Ford was supposed to be doing a BEV truck in this space, so maybe not the best market to target.

Some size comparisons I've collected.

Well... I own my 2025 R1T outright. Net: I like the payments. If I were to get an trade-in offering that would give me a new vehicle AND give me some cash back, I might consider it.

I’m in the nothing camp. For my wife and I, the R1T is perfect. I’ll wait for a Gen 3 R1T update. I still have a Day 1 R2 reservation but most likely will pass. Now, R3X..absolutely add to the family 🎉

what I really want is the EV equivalent of a Ford Ranger or Chevy Colorado.
Thats what the R1T is. They are the almost the same size. The Rivian is only 4" longer and 7" wider.
For comparison, the Lightning is 20" longer and 8" wider.
