I logged into ABRP to do a trip plan on the web and the 7.0 update (Jan 22?) makes it nearly unusable and truly awful. It now gives you three options and it is extremely difficult to customize (changing locations, changing arrive and leave charging percentages, etc.). It is now far too dependent on its (mediocre) algorithm. Just awful. Went for being the best tool to one of the worst in the past few weeks.

Now I need to find something else. Anyone have luck with a different tool? Otherwise I will probably just use Gemini since it seems to do a lot better anyway. ugh

Interesting. I don't need it as I have a Tesla but I use it to check different vehicles like the R2 with.

I just tried and it dialed in a trip with 3 options, primary one in blue (shortest distance) and charging location where I would expect but maybe I just got lucky. v7.01 (5726)

I agree, lost all of my charing preferences with the update. Need to dig in some more.

I’m pissed I paid for a year - it was fantastic, totally nerfed now. Back to home assistant.

edit: ignoring the lack of data for a moment, the data it has is also fubar - 53% of 140kWh is bit more than 0.08kWh I hope?

lol Tesla drivers use it as well. The Tesla route planner sends you to places good for Tesla not necessarily best for you.

FWIW, I used Gemini to plan my trip out to big bend and it was vastly superior anyway. It was much more intelligent about choosing places and times to charge to minimize traffic, lowest cost charging, and get the best places for lunch, route by interesting sites etc. It is easy to just tell it things like what sort of after market tires I have and the fact that I bought a one month Tesla membership and do not want anything with fewer than six stalls and less than 150 kw. It immediately grasps the implications of all those things and creates a custom route. (It also can pull up the weather and make adjustments as appropriate.)

It makes me wonder whether these special purpose software platforms are all about to go the way of the dinosaurs. In any case ABRP is now in the dust bin for me.

Yeah, I should never have updated it from the old version. I've gone back to Plugshare for just doing basic planning, with a combination of Google Maps and Rivian's software.

I can't imagine not using a supercharger on any of my trips within 5 hours of my home. They are just that abundant whereas all other options are not to be counted on. Primarily due to having so few stalls but also reliability and/or charging speeds.

No RAN chargers in Canada, either.

Can you share an example prompt for some of those clever options? TIA

I brought up ABRP [browser version] on an trip I've done recently. I haven't seen that many changes so for except for a variety of alternative routes via a decent interface to select them. I need to dig deeper.

I am afraid I do not have any formula and not sure this is all that helpful but it sort of went like this (I deleted after printing the intinerary):

“I need to get you to do an itinerary for our trip to Big Bend. Reminder we’re staying at Lajitas and we have an RV slot reserved to charge every night while we’re there. We’re driving the R1S Dune edition but remember I replaced the OEM tires with the Michelin LTX (size). I’m thinking of heading out sometime between 6:30 - 8:00 let’s try to avoid the traffic and find a good stop around lunch time, but arrive in Lajitas in time to get dinner and a drink at the bar. If you’ve got any ideas on a SHORT but interesting stop along the way, I’d be up for doing something interesting. Let’s avoid the expensive chargers from the crappy networks and any that are less than 6 stallsand let’s stay to an absolute minimum of 150kw. I’m going to get a one month Tesla membership so check the member pricing when you’re looking for places (I’ve got an adapter in the truck so as long as they are non tesla compatible it should be fine).

oh btw can you also check the long-term weather and see how it’s going to effect the drive and plan accordingly. And give me a just in case top-up stop between scheduled stops if we hit bad wind or something else.”

i iterated with it a few times but basically just plain English back and forth. I’ve used Gemini on a number of road trips as my travel guide (“tell me abut the mountains I am passing on the right” or “how is the weather looking along the route today”).

also it already knows about our cars etc so I do not need to repeat a lot of that info.

I loved that. I use Gemini and CoPilot daily and I provide a fair amount of detail as well to try to get to a more accurate initial answer with less iterations. Nice job.

It still works great for me. Not sure I understand your issue? Your vehicle data is linked? I can use its assumptions or quickly update to mine if towing etc. I’m on Android.

I used a test trip from the North Bay to Badger Pass and back.

When you set the destination, you can also use a slider to set the initial state of charge. After setting the destination, on the next screen you can add home or other waypoints before or after the initial destination. After clicking the Plan button you get three or even additional route options. Works fine for me.

The current version also won’t let you change vehicles - I have both our Rivians linked - and its stuck on our R1T - hopefully this is just a bug which will get fixed quickly. (provided feedback to them).

@strykerwsu - I'm on iOS (v7.0.1) it’s gone from being ugly but great, to vaguely pretty but utterly useless for all but basic route planning. Apparently they are working to get the previous feature set back.

I have no issues either, use it for the Tesla and R1S. Had to go in and adjust some of my saved settings after this last update but once I did that the plans work fine for me.
