Day 1 Snowstorm, screens blacked out

So I picked up a beautiful 2023 LE Quad R1S today and thought it would be great to drive it into a snow storm.

Then... about 2 hours into the drive the screens blacked out. Car is on, but can't access anything. Stuck in traffic on HWY 50 going to Tahoe.

We called Rivian support and they called us reset it. Started driving again and it didn't a couple more times.

Any explanation? Altitude? Cold weather? Snow?

Honestly super impressed I could keep driving but I'll admit with family in the car, I was pretty nerve wracked.

Haven't had any problems in sub-zero temp, heavy snow, at over 8000 ft, so…. Those shouldn't be it.

Likely some random hardware or software glitch.

It’s not due to cold, I’ve driven in -25 F. If soft and hard resets don’t fix it then it’s probably going to need a visit to the service center.

I had it happen once or twice, reset always brought it right back and never affected the drive. Happened on my Tesla once or twice two, but thankfully seems to be totally isolated from drive functions.

As others have said, if it keeps happening after a couple reset attempts, definitely schedule an appointment with service. None of the variables you mentioned would cause that to happen.

Are all 3 screens out? Might be the AXM module. Happened to me a month into owning my 2024 R1T.

I’m guessing your car is telling you to turn back because it’s going to be insane up there lol. We had a bunch of folks leave early to avoid it.

Be certain to keep your camera lenses clean .... front, sides and rear.

I've only had the screens randomly reboot on me one time shortly after getting our first R1S. I've never had them stay off like that though. I suspect that's more than just a software issue.

That crossed my mind but we were already so far up and I knew how much range I had to get to the house.

Sucks, but they'll get you fixed up. Make sure you press that it's a huge safety concern.
