So yesterday I ran into and issue where my front passenger tire started to leak a ton. I went to my nearest tire store which had the stock pirellis but it was like 2k out the door or something. I need to replace all 4 because my back two are worn and of course one of my good ones is the one that got the flat.

I decided that I wanted to move to 20s and grab a package from evsportline if these 21s were going to be that expensive every time and I was excited to. Would've been about 2900 out the door.

But then I found Costco and they had the defenders for 1627 out the door and ofc they come with the 5 year road hazard. So, logically I couldn't still get the 20s. 😢

But.. when I got the call from Costco and brought in the truck, after I leave, they call me for the pucks.. in my mind I'm like they should def have the pucks. But this is my first run in with Rivian tire things and I look all over but only have Tesla pucks. They let me know if I can find some that I can bring them in to use.

So I reach out to rivian, they won't let me borrow or buy. And I reach out to discount tire (official partner of Rivian) and they surprisingly let me borrow some! Sweet right? I go across town pick up all 4 and head back to Costco. Then the dude is like, oh, we can't use that one. We need the magnetic one. Super annoying. Fair but super annoying.. had they told me they needed magnetic, I could've checked with discount tire beforehand lol but I was like okay, I'll just drive back across town and take these back.

While I was there, the discount tire guys shot their shot and told me they'd price match me. So I'm going with them. Luckily they included the protection and everything and I actually saved $10 bucks! Lol

So I'll probably just skip Costco next time but the best part is, they're going to do the mobile service in the Costco parking lot 😂

Just figured I'd let y'all know and rant a bit.

I still wish I had F U money to get the evsportline kit. Oh well.

Costco asked you to provide the pucks? Astounding.
My Costco (Salem OR) had the pucks on hand when I got my tires there last year.

Jack Pucks aren’t too expensive and it’s insurance to prevent some inexperienced tire shop from literally breaking your vehicle. Everyone should buy a set. My Costco claimed they had pucks but I asked them to use mine. They said oh we are glad we did because yours are different and the other (Tesla) ones probably won’t work.

Discount Tire is a good outfit.
Just wish they did alignments in my neck of the woods. All the locations in my city only do rotations, balances and sales.

That’s a rough experience. I’m glad to hear Costco specifically asked for the magnetic jack pucks, as we’re the original builders of those. If you haven’t already ordered a set, I’m happy to send you a special savings code. Just DM me and I’ll share it. We keep them in stock, and more than 25,000 are already out in the wild.

If you do off roading, you might also want one of the long ones from JackPucks to ease changing a tire on uneven ground

Oh, Mark, do you have a video of the “double pump” method for lifting the rear tire to account for the rear increased suspension travel? I need continuing education just in case I ever get a flat tire

Not mark, but I’d say just give it a quick try sometimes. I had never changed a tire before Rivian, started doing my own tire rotations, then when I got a flat off road it was easy to change cause I’d been practicing.

the method is also very straightforward. Put vehicle in off-road highest suspension, tire change mode. Use the bottle jack and jack puck to start lifting one corner (actually I don’t use jack pucks, I have sliders). As you lift, the jack will probably start tilting inward. When it looks scary, lower back down, move the base of the jack, and pump up again, for real this time.

the second time, you can also put some bracing under the jack base to give you more travel.

Usulio beat me to it. I should do a video of the 'double pump' method.

As @CANCERDOC said, just keep a set of 4 in your Rivian at all times. You just never know when you're in the boonies and the only tire shop around doesn't have a set of pucks. You don't want somebody saying "I don't need no stinkin' pucks - watch this..." (as your Rivian slides off the lift).

I keep a set of four magnetic ones from Jackpucks as well as one of their XL pucks in case I need to plug a tire on my own.

It's great to see Costco asking specifically for magnetic pucks. That kind of standard only happens when something proves itself out in the real world. If you’ve been following along and still haven’t picked up a set, I’ll do a quiet Rivian Forums nod:

$10 off for the first 5 buyers - Code: RF10 Appreciate this community more than you know.
