Now that calibration is done, can LFP batteries safely go below 20%

A couple of months ago, Rivian sent out a message about remote calibrating LFP batteries. And instructed us all to charge to 100% regularly and to not drive the car below 20% while it's calibration was going on.

Then I received a message that the calibration was completed.

Now, I'm wondering if it's safe to assume that I can go below 20%, maybe as low as 10%.? Or even 5%?. I don't want to make this a habit but want to know what the limit is in situations where there is no charging station around.

I think I read a couple of people who had posted that their battery had dropped down to almost 0 from 20% almost instantly.

Does anyone know if that problem has been totally resolved? I just tried to speak with Rivian but the chat got disconnected after he told me that there is no hard benchmark that you can't go below. But that the general good practice is to be within 10 to 80% – his words.

Anyone have any more information or experience about this with the standard battery?

I am still waiting on my “calibration complete” message. I charge to 100% 2 times a week, but still haven’t received.

I don't think the sudden drop from 20% or even 10% should happen anymore. You can easily go down to 10%. <5% arrival starts to get a little more unknown.

I don't think there are many real world drivers who are brave enough to always set their arrival at 5% on LFP pack, myself included.
At least in California, it is super easy to find a quick charging stop on the way to longer charge stops. I'll usually add 10% in a few minutes while everyone hops out to use the restroom.

I am also still waiting for my "calibration complete" notification from Rivian.
I've done a few road trips during this time and arrived at 8% at the lowest. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and my actual SOC pretty much matched what the Nav said I would arrive at.

I have charged it to 100% probably 12-15 times since receiving the text on January 21st! How many times did you have to charge to 100% to receive your "calibration complete" text?

That said, I still have my arrival set to 10%.

I did a couple of road trips before the update that wrecked calibration and confidently arrived at around 5% a few times. I wouldn't hesitate to do that again if I received the "calibration complete" text.

I would not stop driving because any low level has been reached. Slow down and continue to the charging station.

If you intend to test the limit it might be best to be close to home.

Once these cells are balanced they should go down to the zero limit together.

LiFeP04 is my choice for every application except an EV that road trips. If all you do is commute the standard pack is a no brainer.

I charged it to 100% about three times a week and would make sure to let the charge drop to 20-30% in between charges. Then about a month ago, got the calibration complete message.
I'm not exactly sure what effect it's had. I can still drive a 50 mile distance and see a 100 mi drop in range (in cold weather).
But I suppose, after what I'm reading here, I would go lower than 20% when I need to.

That's good to know.
so is it your experience that a displayed range of, say, 100 miles yields close to a 100 miles of distance driven?

I'm not planning on testing the limit, but don't want the bottom 10% to suddenly disappear in cold weather and then for the car to get stuck (I read a couple of accounts here that had that experience and their car was stuck in the middle of the road).

Is a 100 mile drive a road trip? Occasionally I need to do that (and have to charge once or twice along the way) otherwise my drives are manageable.

Who else, with the LFP pack, NOT has gotten the "calibration complete" text?

I've charged to 100% dozens of times now since initially getting the text to do so in November 2025 and again in January 2026.

I've yet to get the confirmation. That said, I recently went on a road trip and drove as normal (went below 20%, etc) -- but it would be nice to get that confirmation or some explanation as to why I haven't gotten it yet.

I have set the charging limit to 100% since November and have charged to 100% EVERY time I've charged since then (not counting a couple times of DC fast charging). Typically, I charge once per week when I'm down to about 40%. I've even done weeks where I plug in every night to charge up to 100% -- nothing.

Not for us. Our road trips are over 2,500 miles round trip through WY and MT. Max pack for us. If winds are strong have to charge to 95% sometimes.

Best I can recommend is to slow the charge down. Way down.

I assume there is still a message the calibration is incomplete.

There's no message either way, just the most recent text received from Rivian in January telling me to charge to 100% as often as possible and that I'll receive a text once it is complete.

I don't see what slowing down the charge will do. 99% of my charging is level 2 and it already slows down quite a bit by the time it reaches 100%

Still........ waiting for my calibration complete notification. I wonder if it is a manual process where some engineer has to manually review the battery data and send it out. Rivian has been incredibly opaque about what criteria they are looking for and to consider a battery calibrated.

Has anyone reached out to Rivian customer service recently to ask if they can check their battery calibration status?
