Or maybe they're planning a whole "Trip" screen, full featured with graphs and data layouts for SOC, distance, efficiency, charging, stats, elevation, etc., and it's part of an upcoming major software release and in the meantime they didn't want to toss off a scab trip odometer.

Taking their time and testing seems like an excessively generous way of phrasing it.

Assuming Rivian isn't lying about the delays being caused by the pandemic and parts shortages, the UI should have been feature complete a year ago. With the extra time they had thanks to delays on the hardware side, there is no excuse for software still missing basic features.

Just imagine if the hardware hadn't been delayed by the pandemic, would there have even been a speedometer at launch?

The easy stuff (like trip meter, tire pressure) probably wasn't high up on the priority list. They were probably (and rightly) more concerned about getting rid of lag on the interface. And maybe they wanted to test some of the features out on employee trucks before deploying any updates.

The easy stuff should have been done, hence it being called the easy stuff. Measuring your distance travelled is pretty basic - no need to give them a pass for everything. Some people do complain about everything and anything but this is a valid criticism

If you drain the tires ,for off-road and refill them does it honk the horn or otherwise let you know when you're done filling them up? Like a Nissan Sentra?

Failing that does it update at least quick enough to watch it in the window?

Not sure here, but the on board compressor fills to a pressure you select.

I'll take having the safety and mission critical features first, easy rarely used and/or nice to have features second.

You can tell the compressor what pressure to stop at. So, hopefully, it’s not a big deal.

But from reviews I’ve seen, the onboard compressor is slow, anyway —like 20 minutes to air up a low tire. Some reviewers said the compressor overheated and went into “protection mode” before they could finish filling four tires.
