You mean like subsidizing oil to no end? Made my point, back to BMW.
Can we get back to the point about competitors, both Volvo and BMW but also increasingly at the bottom end of the Roxie range with the Toyota/Subaru entries.

I think the BMW will do really well if the pricing is good. A well equipped model for $60k will be a success, IMO. I paid $62k for my Mach-e, and a lot of others did as well. It had been a huge success (revenue wise, not profit) for Ford.

If only BMW can keep it in that price range. I have a feeling a well equipped model is going to be quite a bit more than $60k, though. We should know soon.

Probably already been said bur the ix3 looks like a station wagon not an SUV. Volvo may be a bit more SUV like but it has the same issue. I know hardly anybody takes their RAV 4 off-road but it is still the best selling SUV and part of that is because it looks like a truck and people like that.
I just wish the mfgs could convince people that wagons are just lower SUVs. Lots of my friends are allergic to anything not an SUV, but most of the crossovers “SUV”s are just hatchbacks on stilts.

Personally, I’d pay $60k for a BMW, but $60k for a Mach-e is not attractive to me. I’m also a car enthusiast and at that price point, I look over at the late GT350R which was $60ish MSRP and I don’t see how the Mach-E stands up to that (granted almost 10 years apart). At least the BMW sells the idea of luxury and I think that will help it sell.

The niche R2 is in seems like a good spot for people looking for something nice, but not necessarily “luxury” as typically defined by the legacy brands.

Totally agree the BMW at $60k is much more attractive than the Mach-e GT I purchased 4.5 years ago for $62k. Assuming the $60k model has the same features, or more. It definitely blows the MME away in range and charging speed.

Back then there were huge supply chain disruptions, and there was a waiting list for many new vehicles, including my MME. I paid MSRP, less the Mustang Club discount. I had never paid MSRP before. I was willing to because I wanted it. (Of course all new Rivians are sold at MRSP. :CWL:)

It was a great car. So much fun. It was my first BEV. It was sad to get rid of it, but my R1T is even better. Granted it cost $45k more. Sometimes you do get what you pay for!

That's one of things that I like about the Subaru Trailseeker - it's an electric Outback, and those are wagons - heck, it's being sold internationally as the E-Outback!

The BMW will not be as well equipped but saying it is the same price as a Ford from four years ago, has faster charging, more range and higher quality interior I don’t view that as a miss by BMW.

Interesting comment. To me, estate or station wagon has a lower body side profile than SUV. An extreme example is the Taycan Cross Tourismo. The iX3 has a very high side body profile.

SUV = sports utility vehicle and not nowhere does it say it has to be rugged or truck like. It's just how one looks at it. Ionic 5 is considered SUV, not hot hatch or econobox EV (depending on the variant).

Not sure what your point is. Are you saying the $60K is ok for BWW but not Ford? Or are you saying that $60K is ok for iX3 but not Mach-E? Also comparing to GT350R - non EV or SUV - makes no sense.

Ford chose the name Mach-E from the marketing perspective and nothing to do with the actual Mustang. They have a habit of recycling names for something completely different (e.g., Maverick, Capri, probably Falcon soon)

From my perspective, iX3, if it didn't have the range and advancements, is overpriced. It is supposed to be an entry level eSUV, Fully expect the base model to come down noticeably after the initial launch models are established.

The question is whether the BMW $60k price point is sufficiently equipped. When I see $60k BMW, I assume it will need another $10k in options to be properly equipped. Hope I am wrong. Of course, none of this takes into account dealership nonsense.

Pretty obvious if they didn’t have 400 miles and 400 kWh charging then yes it would be overpriced. Good thing they are offering cheaper variants with more like 300 mile range.

BMW iX3 is actually not their entry level eSUV. They have a second gen iX1 coming on the Neue Klasse platform. Production starts 11/27.

Base model iX3 pricing will start just above $50k.

If iX1 is sold in US. The current model is not.

It hasn't been 100% confirmed for US, actually NB5 iX1 hasn't officially been announced at all. But the Neue Klasse platform is specifically designed for worldwide rollout. BMW iX2 and iX4 coming down the road as well.

Side note: Not really relevant to this forum, but the i3 has been confirmed to get same battery capacity as the iX3. It surely will get over 400mile range.
