I've always thought this was the real way self driving could improve things congestion wise. Vehicles could collaboratively share data, decreasing follow distance at intersections from a red light stop, in a city for instance, light goes green, vehicles react moving forward simultaneously as a group. Similarly reducing congestion by taking alternative routes rather than focusing on main arteries.
There were two proposed standards for this already.

In the US, the radio spectrum that was set aside for this ended up getting reallocated to WiFi and cell networks/devices.

Do I think a human in a driver’s seat also needs to avoid accidents from another car on FSD? Yes they do. I agree with you.
That wasn't my question. To answer my own question you're not answering - Yes, I've seen it many times with careless drivers.

That literally was your question. Now, if you want to ask the question of whether human divers make errors, the answer is yes. Of course, who wants an self driving car that makes the same errors as humans lol

The pricing and feature strategy for the LE is brilliant. It should keep the entire 2026 run effectively sold out, as anyone sitting on the fence won’t be able to withstand the allure of FOMO. Buyers will rush to secure an early build and largely overlook the fact that LIDAR is expected to arrive in Q1/Q2 of 2027.

Problem is human will always make these errors where as FSD will improve over time

Dont forget the Volvo EX60. Another boxy EV built for rugged weather. So far, it looks like it will be priced about $10k more than the R2
The EX60 P10 is $60k by multiple accounts vs $54k for the R2. The Volvo will have similar performance and range, faster charging and a comparable spec with a much better speaker count (21 vs 9) so nowhere near $10k difference and lets see how much Rivian charge for paint etc which could close the $6k gap quickly.

OK. It's March 12th. No info yet.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Especially if they aren't going to be holding a live event to reveal anything. Just update the site and be done with it.

Going full conspiracy mode here. Stuff at SXSW starts around 9am ET, so since Rivian has a ton of stuff set up there, I'd imagine the website is set up to update at 9am. Less than an hour left to wait (hopefully).

Will leasing be offered right away or down the road? Leasing might be a good option to both get in on a LE and then trade in when autonomy upgrades are more developed.

Is anyone else confused why Rivian chose SXSW for an auto event/release? It's not like Rivian is known for its audio systems anymore :CWL:

I assume we’ll find out soon, but does anyone know if the adaptive shocks are connected to any external sensors or inputs, or is the damping adjustment all internal? I’m sure they work well for a while but eventually I’d think replacing them with Bilstein/Fox/King etc conventional high end shocks would be a desirable option, without having dangling wires or error codes because your shocks aren’t plugged in. I’m pretty sure that similar shocks on Chevy trucks are self-contained.
The GM ARC ones aren't self contained. If you replace them, you need a defeater system for it, like this one for example: https://shocksims.com/products/obd-ss-arc-adaptive-ride-control-bypass

If someone doesn't come up with a defeat for the Rivian ones, we might see some off-roaders preferring the non-premium trim, since it ships with traditional dampers.
