Seeing embargoed R2 spec sheets that were given to press prior to today, they did show 265miles for base R2. Rivian definitely saw feedback online yesterday and changed base to 275+.

Just a guess...but the base model could just be a software locked battery pack. Allowing them to change capacity easily.

I think more likely they took an audit of all available base model cars and their range, did their own cost analysis and determined/confirmed two things:

1. 260~270 mi range is deemed acceptable by the target consumers
2. Like everyone else, it is about as much as they can offer without having to raise prices to maintain an acceptable profit margin.

any ideas on how much extra the 20" wheels (with the terrain tires) on the Launch Edition would be? The 21" may be a deal breaker but also don't want to pay a ton extra on an already expensive car for the 20" wheels.

I don’t have a. Rivian YET, but can anyone explain these ”my car” details in the setting screen? What would QUAD motor AWD mean, and Battery “LARGE PACK 135kwh” mean?

Quad motor in a R2? Hm. That's a new one. That said, I wouldn't read too much into this because didn't Wassym say in riviantrackr's video that the UI in the demo vehicle is a mockup?

This - it even says in the video that it's still pre-production software, so expect placeholders.

The newsroom confirmed a few things for me. Notably, Esker Silver is the free color for all trims. Launch Edition, can pay to upgrade to Launch Green. Interior for Performance and LE is the Black Crater Signature (Birchwood). Re-reading this, it does say Coastal Cloud is optional on Performance.

The 20" AT they call "Black Sand" are optional on the Performance/LE. Both the 21" AS (Pirelli) and the optional 20" AT (BF Goodrich) are listed as Forged Aluminum. The standard 20" and 19" AS (Pirelli) are just listed as "Aluminum". All the tire options are 32" OD.

There's a tidbit regarding the vehicle and "5G-connected..." I'm hoping that this in fact means the eSIM that they use on the vehicle is 5G and not just LTE.

There's at least one unconfirmed report that the Coastal Cloud interior isn't available with Launch Edition. It won't be ready as an option till late 2026.

I would wait to see this confirmed from Rivian directly, but kind of lame if this is true.

I asked the Rivian AI Assistant this exact question this AM. The answer was that it will be available with the Launch Edition:

A: Yes, you can order the R2 Performance with the Launch Package and select the Coastal Cloud Signature interior as an option. The Launch Package is available for a limited time and includes special features, but the Coastal Cloud Signature interior is listed as an optional upgrade for this configuration.
If you want to learn more or reserve your R2, you can visit the R2 page. The online configurator will open in the coming months, so you'll be able to customize your R2—including the Coastal Cloud Signature interior—when that becomes available.

7 years from reserving his R1, The Count is disappointed in Rivian that this 3/12 "reveal" was built up as if it meant we could order. I'm not sure The Count is waiting until June for an aspirational SUV. Macan EV might be the winner here.

Yah take that with salt though. You don't know how many R1 owners are R2 reservation holders. And those R1 owners don't know their place in the queue. You also don't know if Rivian will call them up based on date/time of reservation, how long they've been an R1 owner, or based on logistics (delivery distance from Normal). Don't mistake it for all R1 owners will get theirs first before everyone else. There are also employees who get to place their orders first. And then there are the influencers. Only 25k units projected to be produce in 2026. There probably won't be enough to give everyone with "priority" status a R2.

I don't mind having 10k units built before mine. Time on task.

That is very good news--I couldn't go with a black interior.
