omg will someone think of the influencer that needs new content?
Frankly, I'd like some influencers (like Kyle) to get one before I do and run it through the tests. I want to know where it excels, what the pain points are etc. An R2 in the right hands will greatly influence my purchase choices.

Agree some influencers would be good but not Kyle. Need someone with proper reach (ie over 100k viewership to ensure a wide audience) and to not reward previous bad behavior.

My guess, R2 Shop inventory, for delivery as soon as in 3 weeks. Or, custom config on June 1, with delivery god-knows-when.
Yup. Rivian will just build a bunch for inventory. Its not like there's many SKUs possible anyway. Light or dark interior and then however many paint options for LE, but even then they can just build a bunch of white, black, silver and launch green and they wouldn't be sitting on inventory for long if at all, given the first three are the most popular car colors in the US. Other colors just become custom config.

Or professional car journalists like Liberman and Camissa who aren't just putting out stuff for clicks? Liberman actually own a gen 1 R1T and loves it still.

My friend that works for Rivian that also apparently follows me here silently has *cough* said employees are able to order a month before everyone else will.
According to Jose from Rivian Tracker, employees will start taking delivery as soon as April! Your friend is going to be in one of these bad boys in hopefully just a few weeks!!

I would think late 2026 would mean Q4 2026 (October, November, December), for sales purposes.
That is a reasonable assumption. If I assume December then there is less chance for disappointment 😅
Based on Rivian's history with the R1 and past non-specific statements like "Late Spring" or "Late 2022", a statement of "Q4 2026" should be interpreted as sometime after December 15th. ;)

c'mon guys, you know, surely, that launching a new car is a massive project that has thousands of critical tasks, most of which are dependent and contingent on the completion of previous tasks. We are in the terminal phases of the project, but there are still probably hundreds of tasks yet to be completed.

It's not like the folks at Rivian are just sitting around arranging flowers until they decide to start making new R2s.

If there are any snafus in the process, that will impact quality and delivery.

When they say "spring" they are hoping and guessing.

They probably are giving themselves some room just in case, but if you've ever worked on such a project, you know there are going to be snafus.

Those who know don't say, those who say, don't know.

I agree they gave themselves room because not everything goes to plan. They have stated for years customers deliveries by end of Q2, and this is now cutting it fine. I had expected, if things were going on track, that deliveries would be May thereby allowing them a few weeks room. The reveal on the 12th lacked some details and the configurator and a date for when vehicles would be available to see in the spaces or test drive.
Hopefully we will see formal reviews in May and the ability to drive and sit in one before ordering in June.

I mentioned this in a previous post and people jumped all over me. I didn’t create the seasons. Spring begins March 20th and ends June 21st this year (2026).
Astronomical seasons are for chumps! 😂 Meteorological seasons are the far better system. June 1 is the first day of summer.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

Then I guess Rivian will miss it’s Spring delivery timeline. 🥲

They did say customer deliveries would start by end of Q2 which is June so a narrow path to meet that given this news.
Employees are customers.

You're forgetting half the globe. June Solstice is the start of winter in the South. And with climate change in full swing, basing your seasons on meteorological events is going to be pretty tricky. In the US midwest, it's not unusual for us to see all four "seasonal weather events" in a single week, sometimes in a single day!
