Your parents must be incredibly proud.Maybe if you have health issues but I can easily do 4 hours without a stop and I've done even more.

That seems REALLY off. I don't recall seeing other R1S/R1T owners reporting range THAT bad.My 2025 Gen 2 R1S however isn't nearly as performant. Over 12 months of the same use as the Cybertruck I'm averaging 1.5 mi/kwh. On my 109 kwh "Large" pack that's about 160 miles of real-world range. Yes, it's closer to 1.2 mi/kwh in winter for about 120 miles of range and 1.8 mi/kwh in summer for nearly 200 miles of real-world range. In no case, on properly inflated 22" all seasons, does it come close to the EPA rated range of 300+ miles. So it's become a running around town/short distance vehicle which is fine for toting the kids around but not usable at all for road trips.

lol getting 90 minutes more sleep is kinda important. I don’t get to my destination in good time to sit in a hotel room. Who does that? I get there to do the stuff I want to do at the destination. There is a large consort of the population that still things "We have to make good time", for whatever reason. My wife is one of these people. I used to be one of these people. It took about 2 road trips to realize that on our normal (4x a year) 600mi one way road trip.......that it took us an extra 90min in the EV. Went from 9hrs to 10.5hrs. What the hell were we rushing for? So we could sit at the hotel for an extra hour? Get 90min more sleep in the morning?
Does that mean yours are disappointed? I'm fairly certain that most people go more than 3 hours without a stop.Your parents must be incredibly proud.
For me:Living in the northeast, cold climate, I won't buy an EV with less than 400 miles of range at this point. I just think it's too problematic especially in cold and especially as the car (batteries) age. Long drives in winter you get 30-50% range degradation, it's 2026, how is it that all batt packs aren't at least 400miles+?
Most of them are near gas stations. We've grown to be fans of Sheetz because of charging stops. Are any of your charging stops at places that don't have anything to do there? That's when I'd want faster charging. That plus longer range gives you more flexibility in your stops. Sometimes we have to make a stop where there's no-where to charge, and that just means that entire time stopped is wasted time that we're still going to have to do again to charge.
On a 9hr trip you have time alotted on either end of the travel to "do the stuff"?!?! You're not getting that 90min of extra sleep in the morning anyway, or your stuff to do is in the night time.lol getting 90 minutes more sleep is kinda important. Agreed, I'm at 2.3i/kW-hr lifetime on 20" AT wheels in a Gen1 quad that doesn't have the heat pump improvements the Gen2 has. That seems REALLY off. I don't recall seeing other R1S/R1T owners reporting range THAT bad.![]()
I think you’d be wrong thinking “most people”.Does that mean yours are disappointed? I'm fairly certain that most people go more than 3 hours without a stop.
My 2018 Model 3 has 85% of the original 311 miles. Charging to the recommended 80% give 211. I don't like getting below 20% so actual usable normal range is 170 miles or less.I remember buying my 2018 Model 3, which had 310 mile epa range and 400V charging speed. I think it cost somewhere in the low $50Ks.
8 years later, today, I’d argue it’d be hard to find a new EV with 300+ miles range and 400V charging that costs in the low $50Ks.
8 years later, why aren’t EVs cheaper for the core EV specs?
I have a wife, a 10-year-old, and a 13-year-old. If we don't stop every 2.5 to 3 hours for a breather, it gets pretty untenable in the carDriving and safety studies have come up with various recommendations. After 2 to 3 hours driving they recommend taking a 15 minute break for mental clarity. I usually target 3 to 3.5 hours regardless of what vehicle I am driving. There will be "manly men" who insist they are fine after 4 or more hours. But the reality is you often don't recognize that your senses & reaction are lagging and wandering a bit. Between needing to stretch and flex my bones and keeping alert, I'm fine with my range requiring a stop every 3 to 4 hours.
