Am I the only one who thinks anything less than 400mi of range is legacy at this point?

Love our R1S, and love our 2018 Model 3 LR RWD almost as much. Would love to trade in the Model 3 for R2 but I want to see how many miles we can get out of it first (84,000 and counting).
Ha. I have less than 18k on the clock on my 2019 TM3. Time to replace the tires cause they are old.. vs worn

Getting worried with the amount of people in this thread with bladder issues. You definitely should not have to use the restroom every 3 hours. Some of you need to get your PSA levels checked. Does everyone on Rivian forum live in senior living?
My R1S reservation in 2018 was for the 180Kwh pack. This pack was cancelled.

I want Rivian to make a variety of battery sizes for various customers.

Not everyone that owns or wants a Rivian should be restricted to vehicle range based on a louder senior customer base.

If Rivian made a true Max pax similar to a chevy silveradoEV then maybe their dataset would show more fast charging annually instead of just 10.

If Rivian give us less range in vehicle then less people will take longer trips.

The reason they didn't make the 180kWh pack was due to weight and the impact it hand on the performance of the vehicle, both R1T and R1S. I'm sure there was a cost factor as well.

The idea of having more options of pack size sounds great, but Rivian is a small manufacturer with one factory (and two, maybe three lines in that factory). The more options you introduce makes actually getting the vehicles out of the factory door tougher and more expensive, which is the last thing Rivian needs right now.

@VandalSibs

I agree 100% with everything you said.

I disagree that 300 miles is enough.

300 miles could be enough range for a specific group of customers but this is America and everyone has a vote to make with their own dollars 💲

I want more than 300 miles of range and will pay for it if offered .

My bladder can't last 400 miles, so why pay for
Something you can't use. The charging curve is what needs improving. Like stay at 225 kWh's until 80% vs 40ish %.
I'm right there with you...we also have a 2018 MX 75d, and realistically we can go about 180miles between charges at 70+mph. That's usually about as long as I can go anyway before I need to stop. I would love to have an R1T that could do 450-500miles on a charge, which would make it great for towing. I think the biggest reason to have more than 300 miles on a single charge is for towing, when you loose half your range, you want to be able to tow at least 200 miles before having to stop. It would make long distance towing much better, or be able to make a shorter run without having to stop to charge...ie I live in MN, and being able to tow 150-200 miles on a single charge is huge trying to tow a boat or snowmobiles up north to a cabin.

What EV's (excepting paying "ridiculous upgrade $$" have greater than 400 miles of range?? Also, I call BS on loosing 30-50%in the cold unless you live somewhere that has single digit temperature for an extended period of time. I have been driving exclusively EV in the Northeast (MA) and while there is admittedly some range reduction during winter (we've had our fair share of single digit temps and teens), it's nowhere near that.
Silverado/Sierras are hitting nearly 500 miles at the price points of the Rivians. And the EPA mileage numbers they list are easily achievable even at 70MPH. I just wished the Rivians numbers were true. I still may end up settling for less range with the Rivians because the Silverados are just so dang big.

Living in the northeast, cold climate, I won't buy an EV with less than 400 miles of range at this point. I just think it's too problematic especially in cold and especially as the car (batteries) age. Long drives in winter you get 30-50% range degradation, it's 2026, how is it that all batt packs aren't at least 400miles+?
I'm pretty content with quick charging with 300 miles of range (which I rarely use). Bigger battery=more weight= more tires and poorer handling. I'd prefer to live with smaller battery, better handling and longer tire life as that's 95% of my use. To sacrifice those thing for 25% more range when most people rarely need it doesn't make sense to me. Higher battery density will be nice. Donut Labs coming through for us?

Just got done with a rental tat had the 400mile pack. Not sure what trim, etc... but it had manual seats which were horrid. Also the warning indicator for vehicle ahead was a 6" sub in the seat bottom. Also don't think the dampers were tuned right for the vehicle as it bounced a lot after a bump. Not sure if they are electronically controlled or if its air suspension (doubt it).

Maybe we should start a PSA level thread/survey? Seems like a popular topic of conversation....

1.1 here

FWIW- a very good older friend is 68yo and never had a prostate exam or PSA level test done. Two weeks ago he saw some blood in his pee, he finally got that PSA level test done.. a 10.0 😟
Do the right thing guys, get tested!

I like to stay hydrated on road trips, and drink a decent amount of water while driving, so at about 3 hours, I need to get out and stretch my legs too.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
It is why I'm seriously considering the Scout w/Harvester EREV. If it doesn't meet my expectations/needs, I will consider non-EV.
By the time the Scout Harvester comes out (now 2028?) solid state batteries will be mass produced, at least in China and Europe.

Technology waits for no one, but to each their own. EREVs, hybrids, and ICE vehicles will still be around in 10+ years. Once faster charging, cost parity, and infrastructure catch up it will be the era of EVs. Just like ICE vehicles have dominated for over 100 years.

I own a Porsche Macan and a Porsche Boxster. Neither gets 300 miles out of a tank of gas. I have never once regretted buying either vehicle, and in fact, never thought about the range until I read the constant whining about EV range. I certainly won't start now with a 330 mile R2.
+1
And my brother's Shelby GT 500 gets about 200 miles range. Less if you press it.
Although this is not a preferred vehicle for long days of travel.
