They offered a different option as the OG Gen2 could be run off the same power requirements and wire options of the Gen1. I have been told and based on what I am seeing, that this would not be offered for Gen1.

Also, side note, get one of the third party options as they will charge faster and still look OEM.
Do you think the new Gen2 OEM will work as a replacement for the old Gen2 pad? I need to retain the NFC reader capabilities because if PaaK fails, the NFC reader still works.

I posted this in another thread. I picked up my 2026 R1T a month ago and it has the OLD charger. I have reached out to the service center and have an appointment to assess. They did not give me any idea of swapping was possible, but told me to come in. Will report back.

Im trying to keep the focus on the new wireless pad but... our aftermarket charger keeps the NFC reader in place (we just move it). (soonishev.com)

I'm fairly confident this new charger will have both charging and the NFC reader.

I can confirm that you do place the Rivian card on the left side. If that’s the info you are looking for.

You can do that now with non-Rivian equipment. All we are waiting for is Rivian to release their version, which I am willing to bet will be at least $10k. I would rather spend that on a bunch of batteries.
Where? Everything I’ve seen is pretty much vaporware. They claim “it works” but haven’t seen any real person with it. Just articles.

There are people in the Cayman islands who use it. You can watch the video on youtube. (They even use a rivian)

There are threads on here, and at least one forum member has it installed and working.

EV DC Charging Module & Fast Charger for Home | Sigenergy

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ing-pointguard-sigenergy-bidirectional.48225/

The VTH module itself is around $5k, but it is a module that requires additional equipment, running it up to $10k ish to start. Add batteries, and you are at $20k.

It does provide 25 kW of charging or VTH power, so that is pretty great. I imagine a 11 kW version would be less expensive, perhaps substantially so.

VTH exists on the R1, but you have to convert the DC voltage into AC voltage, which is why it is so expensive. It looks like the R2 has the VTH inverter built into the truck, so you don't need expensive equipment to get VTH. It looks like, anyway. The R1 does not have that capability.

Btw- New charger is not compatible for Gen1 vehicles.
Wonder if Rivian will ever come out with an upgraded Gen 1 version. Maybe once they run out of their stock of older Gen 2 chargers they will only produce the new version and allow it to be retrofitted / replace under warranty with the new part if issues. Similar to what happened with Gen 1 now getting the V2 Tonneau instead of the 1.5.

Might not be worth the trouble for Rivian. Modifying the PCB to meet that need may not be worth it to them.

Personally, doubt it. Hardware-wise, the company has already moved on from gen 1. If you put yourself in their shoes and look at total production numbers (and how many new gen 1 specific new pads you'd have to order from suppliers), that's a relatively small order at high per unit cost—i.e. bad business case.

PTC is a slightly different situation. Body structure between the generations didn't change so that alone provides a level of compatibility. All that remains is whether the recipient vehicle has a particular harness (and some do not).

Is there a good use case for the small slit at the front of Rivian’s charging pad? For the life of me I could not find one beyond getting pens stuck before I ditched it and upgraded to the Soonish pad. It’s so much better and the larger cavity is actually useful.

Try it as a phone stand. Portrait and landscape. Exactly what it was meant to do.

So seeing the pad... There's so much wasted space... Easy to make a bigger bowl. Im looking forward to tearing into it. I think there's potential for customizing.

Yeah I tried that once but don’t see how it’s useful. It’s a terrible angle/viewing position from the driver’s seat, not to mention dangerous if you’re glancing at it while driving. I added a phone mount to the dash so maybe that’s why I never used that “feature”

I personally keep a pen, some Starbucks drink stoppers and coins in there for meters.
