No light interior at launch would be a surprise IMO, I feel like I watched most of the launch materials and launch timing was all about the trims, not options. (Remember when R1 only had one trim?)

At this stage as a company, their relationship with suppliers must enable them to handle two interiors without much problem (R1 has 5).

We'll see!

It was confirmed independently with Rivian: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...r-not-available-with-r2-launch-edition.56989/

He actually followed up with a post in that thread too and checked with Rivian a second time:

Hi all, I once again emailed and confirmed with Rivian this morning that the white interior will NOT be available at the launch of R2 in June. They expect the white interior to launch later in 2026 but since we don't know how many launch edition vehicles will be made, it is unknown if there will ever be the option together a Launch Edition with a white interior.

Originally I spoke with Jeff Hammond and the Rivian media team at the media event on Thursday of last week who confirmed this information to me. Additionally, all exterior colors will be available at launch so you can pick from:

- black interior only
- all colors
- 21" all season or 20" all terrain wheels

Because it's what most people get, so the supplies for it (fabric, leather, fake leather, etc) is cheaper due to economies of scale.
Yeah I don’t get why most want black ;) must not understand science

This makes sense to me: they launch a no option edition, easier to control supplier parts and quality on the production line while starting out, if you want it —> get it… otherwise wait. Plenty of demand for a couple months of LE. The wheel options are simple on the line… and their new paint shop was setup to efficiently cover all the current vehicle lines… so color change in the shop is already dialed in.

I didn't get much more info from my Rivian buddy besides "yes I got the e-mail" and "yes I'm going to buy it". But I also didn't pry for more information that he wouldn't be comfortable sharing either. I'm sure I'll get some photos of it in his driveway when the time comes.

Maybe some just prefer the look? I will never buy a car with any other color. Call me boring but I love all black interior including head liner.

So I’m completely fine with only black interior offered as long as the headliner is also.

i tint my windows and use a sunshade here in SoCal and if it gets really hot I cool it down before I get to the truck and it’s always nice and cool when I get in it. :p

I wonder if they're giving employees access to the online configurator.
In some form, most likely. Employees-first delivery is common practice. It's dress rehearsal to trial and stress test everything, not just the cars and production of it.

Right. I mean... look up posts of people wondering how to get whatever stain out of their light colored interiors. The internet is full of them, regardless of make/model. Or, people trying to repair and color match some proprietary shade of gray, white, green or whatever hue. There are shades of black too, but generally the human eye is more forgiving. The mismatch does't stick out like a sore thumb. Plus, the heat being associated with color is somewhat psychological. Same sheet metal, glass and factory tint between the sun and upholstery—exact same amount of IR radition exposure between same make/model. The upholstery material is the same even, just different color. If there's any temp dfiference between the colors, it's probably not even a tenth of a percent. Everything gets hot in the sun. Just tint or shade.

Anybody see the interesting opinion expressed on one of the recent OutOfSpec videos coming out of SXSW, to the effect that white dog hair is so incompatible with a black interior that no one should ever consider it? I'm sooo glad there are no dark-haired dogs in the world!

Seriously, although I prefer the appearance of the light interior myself, I've never been an avid car-cleaner inside or out, and have a hard time imagining that it's not significantly more challenging to keep the light interior looking good over the long haul (dog hair notwithstanding).

I don't have time to spend on 40+ minutes at a time of influencer drivel. The question was why would anyone want black interior. My response is: choices, yes, we can have them. Whatever floats your boat. Doesn't mean your preference should be the only one possible.

I was at the Venice show today. It was confirmed that the black (really a gray same as R1) is the Launch interior, other interior comes later.

Also confirmed some employee (said Engineers) should start this month.

Was glad to see the final product looks very much like the early model they had on tour awhile ago.

Thanks for commenting on the fact what is called black is more gray. Can you provide a little more insight on that, is it a really dark gray, a medium gray or a lighter gray? And is there more than one shade, such as seats vs dash? My 2022 R1T is the Forest Edge so I don't know what the R1 black interior is like, and have wondered about the R2 crater color.

As exciting as this is, that color selector looks really bland. It was so refreshing to come to Rivian as a brand that had brighter and warmer colors.
