Would Rivian's touch up paint fix this scratch?

I must have received a rock on the hood (heard the noise, was dark at night) and it left the following scratch, about half an inch long. It feels relatively deep however. Any advice?

Try Dr Colorchip. I've had much better results than the dealer touchup pens. I've used the Dr Colorchip on several vehicles. If they don't list your vehicle color, email them the paint code and they should be able to mix your color.

I have found that if I don't like the result after applying the Dr Colorchip, I can wipe it off and start over without any ill effect. This gives you a chance to build your skills and understand the process.

+1 on Dr. Colorchip. A scratch that deep will require multiple applications, but you can definitely minimize its appearance.

"Fix" it? Hell no. But it can make it much less noticeable. As others have mentioned, the OEM paint pens are hit-or-miss on matching.

Yes but not very well. Imagine you are a speck of dust and the scratch the Grand Canyon. Imagine what it would take to fill it, then level it as if it never existed. And since it’s vertical and paint likes to run until dry… Hint: it takes more than paint.

Regarding drcolorchip’s kits… while they are probably the most complete kits out there, I’ve never gotten results that are as good as advertised. YMMV

So I've done mostly vertical surface repair with Dr Colorchip as that is where most damage occurs. I've not had a problem with their material running down the surface, it has enough viscosity to cling while you complete the process. I use multiple applications so it may be that if you try and use the material like Bondo it will run down the surface?

I agree with Beatle that it may take several applications to fill the void, and of course if the surface got dented then all bets are off that it will look like new, but after some trial and error I've found I can build the void by applying a coat letting it dry, rinse and repeat until the void is filled. I've filled chips in the silver trim paint, the black gloss paint, and the silver paint on my R1T. Just take your time and at the very least you can bring the chip back to the body color which makes it less noticable.

I would suggest calling the company, or emailing them. I'm not sure if the trim color has remained the same across the years of production? They should give you a definite answer; they were able to formulate the colors I needed from my VIN. I found them to be very helpful.

I'd hate for you to use the code I got and find out the color isn't the same for all years.

I don't remember posting that any "touch-up" product is going to rival the work done by a competent auto body shop, that wasn't ever my suggestion.

Small road rash and other paint chip damage can be visually eliminated or minimized at minimal costs with the Dr Colorchip product; additionally it has been my experience that attempting to fix the damage first with something like Dr Colorchip's product won't have a negative impact on a body shop's ability to repair the damage if the touch-up repair doesn't meet your expectations, assuming you follow directions and don't cause more damage.

Our Storm Blue touched up perfectly when the service center got a little too aggressive on our passenger door alignment. Colors with the metallic fleck don't match as well but once you get it filled and leveled shouldn't be too noticeable.

Important to get it filled and sealed. Yes a bit of matching paint on top will help.
